On my bike  carbs #3 and #4 are connected with hoses and a T fitting. My question is ...do these carbs have to be connected to each other and I cap off the T or can I get rid of the hoses and T and just cap off each carb.

just capping off #'s  3 and 4  is not de-smoging.  there is alot of other things that have to be done to complete the de-smog.  look in shop talk, or use the search function.

You cap both 3 and 4, but, thats just the beginning.. Look in the archives or shoptalk for the article written by Quexpress [ Normand ].. Its the best desmog article ever written..

I did do all the other things that have to be done for desmog  but I capped the T on #3 and #4 and not the carbs separably...was not sure the carbs needed to be connected .
Thanks to all,

When you are done with the de-smog, there will only be one vaccuum line attached to the back of the intakes...that will be on # 6. If you are not using a vaccum operated fuel vavle, then all the intakes will have plugs on them.

Unless you have the Audiovox CC100 cruise control, then you're using the vacuum for that.

Is it just California bikes that have to be "de-smogged"?

No, no bike has to be de-smogged.. Its against federal law to do so..  Some bikes are de-smogged just to help eliminate the possibility of vacuum leaks , stop the pair valve rattle, and clean up the looks of things..

OK, let me re-phrase the question.  Do all Valkyries have the smog plumbing that is removed during the de-smog operation, or just certain models?

Yes, all models can be de-smoged, the California models require a little more because of the extra plumbing.
