I got the clutch cover off and there were rivets in there.  I havent pulled off the clutch assembly and the basket yet. I need to get the sockets. Harbor freight has the 1 1/4 socket for $2.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=1+1%2F4+socket  and my buddie that owns a pawn shop is gonna give me the 1 13/16 socket just in case I need it.

How bad does the basket need to be in order to need a new one? I know its bad if the clutch rivets do some scraping or gouging. What exactly does the basket do besides hold the clutch rings assembly? Im thinking that unless the basket is gouged so bad that the gouges are about to go through it and it falls apart, does it need changing? Im sure you guys know better than myself. Hopefully Jeff K chimes in. I read somewhere he did a million clutches..... Grin

When I went through this a couple of years ago, I had the entire clutch assembly replaced. Had 86,000 miles at the time & didn't want to have it torn down again for something that could have been taken care of the first time. But that's just me. Heck, at 92,000 miles, my splines were like new but I'm so paranoid that I want to take the rear wheel off after every ride just to make sure all is still ok.  crazy2

Most likely your Basket will be fine.  When I did mine, I changed all the plates along with the damper, but I really only needed to change the damper plate.

My basket was ok, if yours isn't beat up, reuse it.

if was bad enough to throw burrs, file them smooth so the plates slide. it's aluminum. check inner diameter for roundness too with an indicator.
