I wonder if this is a training set or if it really happened,, reason i say this is all the guard rails i have seen have the break-away barriers where if you hit them they will fold up and slow you down instead of going through your car like this,,,

I take your point..but I'm in the training business and that's one of the most elaborate set-ups I've seen if that's what it is.  Wow. Shocked

That's the beginning of the rail. The end is in the car.

I'm skeptical of the texting story. Only because, how exactly would they know this? Not saying that's NOT the cause (from what I've seen it's likely) but it could also be from a GPS right in the middle of the driver's field of view.  Cheesy

The older guard rails that had nothing more than a slightly curved end are notorious for that kind of damage.  Accidents like this are why the ends that you are familiar with exist.

Here's a similar one near me that I know is real. 120 feet of guardrail right through the middle of a Suburban. 3 good photos of it here:

good point, I have seen thousands of damaged guardrails that got curled up piece of pasta. if this is real the car involved must really be made out of recycled beer cans  uglystupid2
