I'm pretty new to the board and this has probably been discussed many times, but in your oppinion what is the best tire out there for the buck? I don't mean the cheapest, but the tire that will get you the most miles out of the dollar.

I've had OEM Dunlops, Bridgestones, Metzlers, and Avons (Venoms and Cobras). I like good grip and good wet weather traction. The Avon Venoms and Metzler 880s did not give me enough mileage consideringr their costs. The Bridgestones caused weird handling and growled in the curves. The OEM Dunlops had problems and wore quickly, however their are the newer E3s (never tried them). I like the Avon Cobras best.

You will get about twice as many miles out of a car tire than a m/c tire. They are about half the price..... You do the math.

I'm running a Good Year Triple Tread, car tire. Very good traction, dry or wet. Also, do a search for tires, and you will have a bunch of reading to do. Welcome to the sand pit.

At least he didn't ask about oil-yet. Welcome to the insanity. You will find that as many that like one brand or style of tire as many will not like that brand or style. I'm on a C/T General Altimax H P 205-60-16. And a metz 880 on the front. When i bought the Valkyrie it came with E-3s. I like what i have on now way better. Again-welcome and enjoy. RIDE SAFE.

I am replacing my rear E3 with only 7k (hard) miles on it. Badly cupped, but still has some good tread in the middle. Always maintained 42psi. Going to replace it with an Avon Cobra this time. If I only get 7k out of the Cobra, I'm going to a square tire. The front E3 is wearing well. Over all, I was pleased with the E3's perfomance, just not the wear. They do growl in the corners.

+1 on the Dunlop E3. My son and I have had multiple sets on his Goldwing and my Valkyrie Interstate, and we've had great mileage. We are also very happy with the wet performance, and we've been through some monsoons.

I've got 15,000 miles on my Avon Cobras, but might have to get new ones before long. I like the Avons but don't have experience with other brands on the Valk.

Consensus is the E3's outlast all reg bike tires. I believe the Metz and Cobra are a better nonslip/performance tire in all conditions. I just keep running the round ones.

Goodyear Triple Tread rear at 36 lbs (27,000+ miles and plenty left) Metzeler 880 front at 42 lbs. The Metz is nowhere close to a long lasting tire, but it sticks great in all weather conditions. I tried one Avon, it was ok but I like the Metz better. I wouldn't have another Dunlop E3 if it was free....but some people like 'em. YMMV.

I have run Avon Cobra's on both of my Valkyries. Never get more than 10,000 miles out of them. Thought about the car tire but couldn't convince myself to go that route. This time I bought Metzler's. Must have just been unluckily got a bad rear. The Avon tires Always make noise in the turns but handle great. Going back to the Avon's.
But as you will find most is personal preference. Good luck with what ever you choose.

I have had Avons...didn't wear well and slipped in the wet. No more Avons for me. Ran a car tire for 4000 miles...tried to kill me 3 times! No more car tires. Went with the Dunlop E3's and have confidence in all conditions and get 20,000 miles out of the rear tire . I have Metzlers on my 2nd Valk (Std). I like the way it handles, but I know they won't go the miles that the E3's will go on my I/S.

Go ahead a buy that "Square" tire. The Avon sticks well, but it won't get the mileage that the E3 does. I'm getting 10K out of the rear E3, I have worn out rear Cobra's @ 6K.

I'm just not there - yet. Gotta give the Cobra's a try before I increase my chance of a fiery death. It kills me the price they fetch for a MC tire. That works out to almost 3 pennies per mile! Better get the wife rolling some
