after reading 1,000+ responses to the best battery for a valk, what is the best?  I have a 99 valk with the original battey. can anything else come close? I would be happy to buy a 6 year battery, but batteries have as many opinions as tires, color, seats, etc.  Is going to the dealer the best option?

Do you have an Interstate Battery store close by?

That is what I use for MGM.

I've also had good luck with Wal-Mart batteries, BUT, others have had nothing but problems.      I think it is the way they add the acid and the initial charge into it.      Got to charge it 24 hours on very very low setting.     Trickle charger is best.

My 10 year old John Deere tractor, with a snow blower on the front has a Wal-Mart and it is going to be 7 years in the making in a couple of months.     I'm expecting it to give up the ghost at any time.    It was a $39.95 battery back then.    I've got my $$$$'s worth out of it.

I, along with it seems lots of other Valk owners, have gotten excellent use and service life out of the OEM Yuasa batteries.  I have two bikes, 1 a 2002 shadow with 8 years batt life and my 2003 Standard i am just now buying a new Yuasa for.  I suppose you have the YTX14-BS, and if so Amazon has free delivery for
$67 that I made a buy on this past Saturday, supposed to be here Thursday. Good Luck, whatever you buy.

I stated going exclusively with AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries in all of my MCs. They are totally sealed, will never leak, have more cranking power, and the Deka brand I buy is made right here in the good old USA. Also, the price is better.  cooldude

I too, am on my original battery in my '98 tourer.  It has lost some of it's umpf lately, but still getting er done.

It seems that all Yuasa batteries ae not created equally.  If I could get one just like the one in the bike now, I'd probably get it.

Many of my ridding buddies use "absorbed glass mat" types and like them.  That is likely to be my second choise.

Maintenance Free

Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Technology is an advanced battery design used in Yuasa's Maintenance Free Batteries that eliminates water loss. Once it's filled with acid the battery is permanently sealed - so you'll never need to fill it with water or check the acid level.

Above are words from Yuasa website.  YTX14BS is Maintenance free.

Just got off the phone ordering a new battery from a local shop.  Picking it up tomorrow afternoon.  Replacing a dead Yuasa YTX14-BS with a new Yuasa YTX14-BS.  My Valk is a '97 and this battery will be the third battery it's ever had.
