First I am new to the Valkyrie Riders Club,  I purchased a 2001 Valkyrie Standard a few months ago with only 8000 miles on it, owner didn't ride much and then had a stroke so it had been sitting for around two years, the seller had a mechanic change the fluids and get it going.  I runs great but because sitting for so long it doesn't ideal well, up and down and dies if chock isn't on. I had a mechanic tell me the carbs need to be removed and cleaned and it should be good as new..... for the tune of 6 to 800.00. Just want to make sure i get a good mechanic. I also have a Harley softail 94' which i learned the hard way about getting a not so good mechanic, it cost me lots of money and time..... that company is now closed... thank god for that they hopefully didn't kill anyone.  Any suggestions or comments would be great fully appreciated.
Thanks
Ric

They guy is right about the carbs. I've got a Magna as well and they are notorious for getting clogged slow jets if they set up.
You might try running a couple of cans of seafoamâ„¢ through it. A couple of cans will run you $35 to $40 depending on where you get it. There's a passable chance it will solve your problem. It's a lot cheaper than hiring somebody to clean your carbs, and a lot easier than doing it yourself. There's no guarantee of course, but I'd say it's worth a shot.

Seafoam is worth a try. Get it out on the road and blow the cobwebs out of it.

If you try the seafoam, techron or other cleaner route, use a bottle of it in a tank, ride or run it long enough to distribute the fuel/cleaner into the carbs (running it below 3000 rpm), then let it sit overnight.  Then take it out on the road, trying (yes, I did say trying) to keep it at lower rpm.. that should help her out considerable, if no improvement and only then do you want to take it to a mechanic..

Thanks for the info. I have ran a couple tanks of berryman's carb/fuel injector cleaner through it so far and hasn't seemed to do anything. I will try and find the Seafoam you all have mentioned and see how that goes.
Thx

If you've already put Berrymans through it, Seafoam won't do anything but take your money.

I ran the barryman's through with the amount they said to, I didn't want to screw anything up by making it stronger......  Guess I will be taking it to the mechanic for a carb. I don't want to try to do the cleaning myself, if there was one carb. that would be different but with 6....... I guess the good part will be they will be in great shape and fully synced, and my pocket book will be much lighter.....
