I am taking apart the forks on a valkyrie and am having trouble getting one of the fork caps off, I have tried heating it up with a heat gun and  using a hand impact driver. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this off with out wrecking it.

Thank you,

Bernie G

Are the forks off the bike? Top pinch bolt loose? Shouldn't be that tight...maybe a previous owner or shop had them apart and damaged the cap.

The forks are off the bike, I tried putting it back in the tripple tree but ther's no room to get a socket and breaker bar it to lossen it up, i am going to try to make some rubber v-blocks to hold the forks tighter to keep it form spinning like it's doing in the padded v-block thats in the vice now.

They are REAL fine thread, I bet the PO has them cross threaded. They should not be that tight. I took mine off with a socket and 3" extension when I replaced my spring while on the bike.

The trees should be able to hold it tight enough. Oughta be enough room without a fairing. Good luck and welcome to the board.

As mentioned, it shouldn't be that tight. Be careful you can round those caps up real easy.

I usually loosen the upper pinch bolts only, then crack the caps loose, then loosen the lower pinch bolts to remove the tubes.

Yes, this would be the easiest and correct way.  cooldude

As was stated: tighten the lower tripletree pinch bolts. Loosen the top pinch bolt, and loosen the cap. A 15/16" box wrench or socket will fit. Use a 1/2" breaker bar with a cheater pipe if necessary.
