Runs great just trying to stop popping on decell.

Turned pilots out another 1/4 turn to (2 & 1/2).  It helped !

Remember 6 into 6 exhaust and a K&N. stock jets, 35's & 100's

How would I know what's to far out?
Would out of adjustment valves cause decell popping?
Do I need to sync every time I adjust pilots?
Has anyone tried 2 & 3/4 out on the pilots?

Getting rid of the 6 into 6!

Stock pipes will be the only way to stop all the popping completely.

All the aftermarket pipes exhibit popping to some extent.

Even stock pipes that are modified will pop a little.

I am all stock.. pipes, air filter, and slow jets...  she just purrrs... well growls a lot too.. but no popping.

some of my popping stopped when I tightened the bands on the carbs.

Was able to do a better job syncing carbs, with 6 vacuum gauges. Getting a nice even popping on decel when bike is warm. Very little popping on decell when cold. Will change out k&n for the stock filter this week. Maybe choking air down will help.  I can live with the popping, but dam these pipes are loud.   Shocked

Video of synced gauges and sound of 2 brothers 6 into 6 exhaust.

Enjoyed the video whitestroke! #1 looked like it may still be off a little.? When it's cold, my bike will not decel pop. My bike is setup nearly identical to yours and will also decel pop when warmed. I'm very curious to know if the OEM air filter eliminates the pop. Also, does the decel pop come from both sides or is it restricted to one bank?

Very observant Salty, I had to look at video again (freeze frame) and your right #1 is pulling slightly more vacuum.  Not sure if that is due to engine cooling off or if I wasn't diligent enough the first time.
The better in-sync the motor is the more even the popping is. Yes both sides do pop evenly.  Will report back with stock air filter findings.

Good morning Whitestroke! After reading your last post on the recent air filter string, I came back here not to high jack that thread. You said you still have the decel pop after the install of the OEM air filter.  When you were messing with your jets, did you ever check your air cutoff valves? A failed cutoff(s) could be the source of the decel pop.? I'm betting now that's my problem. I've been chasing this gremlin a longtime. If you recall, my bike is setup very similar to yours except now you have a stock filter and I still have a K&N.    ???

My 99 with OEM air filter and cobra (or tbr-how do you tell the difference?) exhaust pops at low speed decel but from 55 and over doesn't pop on decel. Idle and acceleration at all speeds is excellent with no lag of any kind.

Salty
No I never did mess with the air cut-off valves or the vacuum lines to them.  The vacuum lines looked good. Let me know know if you figure it out, I will do the same.

I just desmogged a bike with Cobra pipes, it was popping on decel.  It needed intake o-rings and all of the small vacuum lines to the cut valves looked good on first glance, but if you closed the hole on one end with something the size of the tube that it was attached to and forced air through the other, would leak through small cracks around the end that was capped.  The bike runs like new now with no popping.  Take a closer look at those small vaccum lines or just replace them, cheap fix.

cooldude  + 1 what Thunderbolt said.  Those small lines crack from the inside out and will leak while still looking great from the outside.  Also check those valves to be sure they hold vacuum.  My Valk (at 25k on the meter) had 5 of the 6 valves leaking vacuum as well as all 6 hoses cracked.

Okay, I'll replace the lines but how do I check if the valves hold a vacuum?

Put the stock pipes on.  On decel if I concentrate I can still hear gurgling and popping,  but it is so faint that it's almost undetectable.  Very happy with the quiet sound!
