DISH has taken away the last movie channels form my programming.

So now I pay $58 for what amounts to about 10 decent channesl plus plus local news and PBS plus garbage.

So much for my over 2 years of on time bill paying.

Guess who is going to stick my account up their rear end come Monday.

Hope their Company big wigs suffer from the ensuing customer fall out as well. Idiots.

I dumped Dish for Directtv about 7 years ago for just that reason. I have had nothing but good service and the channel lineup has increased with very little change in price. My only complaint is the dish is more fussy about snow buildup. Mine is only 3 feet off the ground, so really not that big a problem cooldude

I wil not be giving Charter any money for their basic package. That's a bundle of poop.

Oh well off to research what's on offer like Hulu Plus and Netflix etc.

I no longer get any of that high priced crap from cable or direct TV.

I've got an internet ready tv and pick up Netflix wireless from my internet service.  a simple antenna for the local stations, no cable. I might try other apps as I go.  My LG has about 10 apps.

Netflix is ok but a lot of their movies are second rate. Local stations here (5) about the same.

Not a good solution but cheap and mostly reliable so far.

I've heard (second hand) that Netflix lost a contract with one of the major movie companies...

I have no clue if that's true or not.

In any case, I'm not very impressed with their selection... I plan to keep them for a few more months, then move to someone else for fresh material.

That's funny because I got a letter saying they were going to sue me. I called the "lawyers" office and told them I had not had DTV in many years. They said we have proof you owe us money, do you have proof that you don't? I said no I don't have proof that I don't owe you money, but I do have prepaid legal through work and it will not cost me a dime to go to court and fight this. They hung up and I never heard from them again. Grin

I have Comcast Xfinity here which is cable.  No complaints so far.  Had DTV previously and had no complaints except we wanted faster internet.

Yee-Ha I'm now DISH free. The CSR asked if I wanted to upgrade to a package with more channels. I asked if that would cost more. Yes.

Well, cancel my service. My bill date is tomorrow.

Then the CSR told me that they would ship boxes to me to return the equipment and I would have to pay a $17 shipping fee.

I asked why I had to pay this and she said it was in "the policy".

I told her I would get my DISH file and put her on hold. We then spent a few minutes trying to find where I had signed and agreed to pay a shippigng fee.

After some stumbling around verbally I got transferred to an Executive blah blah blah CSR.

She then sparred with me verbally for a few moments whilst I insisted on being told where I had signed an agreement that included a return shipping fee.

Eventually she said it might have been an electronic pad to which I replied that I have all the other paperwork and listed everything I had in my file including paper copies of each months payment. I thena sked how they gave the customer a copy of anythign signed for on an electronic pad. No really credible response to that question.

After I asked her a few more times to supply me with an agreement I signed she told me that the fee would be waived.

A small amount but what a rip off.

So many choices.

Hului, Hulu Plus, Netflix. I very rarely watch any news on the TV cause it's crap. Travel Channel has become the stuff your face ghost adventure bollocks. History and others have become soap opera reality TV crap.

We have been brainwashed into thinking we need to watch it as soon as it is on the TV. Back in the day people would watch TV and water cooler talk about it. Now there are so many providers. Most providers web sites will have links to episodes of something already aired.

Get a laptop with HDMI capability and plug in to yer big screen and watch via the Internet.

A few suggestions here

http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2010/01/your-guide-to-cutting-the-cord-to-cable-tv008.html

Of course there's read a book and I listen to BBC Radio 4 online whilst putzing around the internet.

Received my box to return equipment. Inside there's a sheet promoting "A Special Offer just for you".

The devil in me made me call the 800 # to what "my" special offer was.

The CSR rep tole me it would be $10 off the charges for the frist 12 months of a new 2 year contract. When I asked what those charges would be she told me the amount I had been paying. $54.00

When I pointed out that a new custoemr would only be charged $29.99 a month she replied yes that is only for new customer.

What complete prats. I offer an opportunity to retain a customer who has never missed a payment but they would rather try to get a new customer.

Who is running their marketing dept.  uglystupid2

I guess the same brain dead plonkers who training their CSR's.  uglystupid2

I spoke with your Executive CSR named Shay at 303-942-8600 x70341 on February 27th, 2012 who informed me I would NOT be charged a return fee. Please confirm this with her.

If any such fee is charged to the credit card associated with my account I will inform the Georgia Better Business Bureau, the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Protection and the FCC.

Please also note your Executive CSR advised me that I would have a month to return equipment at a waived cost of $17.00 yet your attached email states 10 days and $15.00. Your company training methods need to be revised.

Paul Hall-Smith

Please also note that I agreed with the CSR on 2/27 that I would NOT be returning the LNBF (she called them the eyes).

I do not own a ladder suitable for reaching the satellite dish nor am I willing to climb up to the roof where it is mounted.

Once I've received a call confirming that I will NOT be paying a shipping charge I will immediately return the receiver.

I've called the 800 number you included in your email.

The ONLY 2 options I'm given are

A) To restart my service

B) To pay my final balance - MY FINAL BALANCE IS ZERO

Not very conducive in ensuring that I will NOT be charged a return fee.

Please note my last name is HALL-SMITH

An old buddy of mine didnt have a credit card and asked me to buy him an electronic thing. At the time I had no idea what is was. Then after DirectTV tried to sue me, I found out what it was. That was before I even owned a computer.  According to them, you are guilty of ripping them off just for buying something on the internet. They can lick the root if you know what I mean. I will never deal with DirectTV after that. tickedoff

They (netflix) have all the Dr. Who's on streaming too...well, everything except the most recent Christmas episode.  They also have Torchwood (including the latest season which was Starz/BBC).

Their movie selection for streaming is pretty crappy though, but every once in a while you can find a good one.

I play against each other every 6-10 months or so.  I threaten to quit 1 to go to the other even before my 2 year committment and they both have given me 20 dollar credit off my bill for like 6-12 months to stay with them.   My 2 year committment with directtv is up May 15th but might wait until my 20 dollar credits run out to call and threaten to switch.  If directtv will not give me another 6-12 month credit of 20 bucks, I will switch back to dishnetwork and get 20 bucks off for 12 months of the 2 year committment.  Personally, directtv and dishnetwork are darn near identical and both are about the same, still a big ripoff in pay each month for what you get but where I live, rabbit ears or even an antenna on the roof can barely get in the local stations, not even that really. Back in early 90's, both were like 32 bucks per month now almost same lineup costs about 69 bucks, more than double which is a ripoff.

I bought one of these

http://www.amazon.com/Leaf-Plus-Amplified-Indoor-Antenna/dp/B006GQIIEM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334883469&sr=8-1

I get all the local channels minus 1 PBS that I used to get. Plus some I'd never heard of. There's some junk as well which I've deleted from my TV favorites list.

I live at the bottom of a hill, about 200 feet tall, and I don't "see" the signals very easily.

I'm very impressed with the Clarity of the image. It's as good as the HDTV was on my DISH.

Tomorrow I'm going to palce the antenan as high as I can in my livign room to see if that makes a difference with the amount of channels receied.

Next is to buy a docking station so I can plug my Android into my flat screen TV with a HDMI cable so I can watch my Netflix subscription.

As a non sports watcher I don't forsee ever going back to "normal" TV.
