I bought my I/S a couple of weeks ago and need to get it registered in my name.  Since I bought it out of state, I have to take it to the DMV so they can visually check the VIN and make sure it matches the title.  However, it has a chrome neck cover on it that covers both VINs on the neck.  I don't know if it's just a stick-on cover or if it's attached some other way.  I'm including some pictures so that if you're familiar with this type cover, you can tell me how it's mounted and how to remove it.  Thanks in advance!

It seems those are stuck on there with 2 sided black tape,  Side trim tape from 3M, and it do stick.

If ya want to put em back on later, take some fishing line and work it in behind the plates and use a sawing motion to get them off.   I have also found if ya load it up with WD40 they seem to come off easier......

You will need to was the mdown in alcohol before ya try to put them back on...

Thanks, guys.  That's what I figured, just wanted to be sure before I started taking it off.

The vin is also stamped on the engine. I just don't remember where 'cause I've got lots of chrome attached now. I thought it was near or below the oil fill/dipstick.

The number on the engine doesn't match the VIN on the frame or VIN sticker.  I think its the engine serial number.

Right, the S/N on the engine is different, b/c it's the engine's S/N.

Better news though - the previous owner installed the chrome neck covers with VELCRO!!!  I got out there and was messing with the cover and pulled on a corner and it came loose with this horrible RIPPING SOUND!  Figured oh well, just tore the 2-sided tape loose, may as well pull the rest off....

and lo and behold, it came off with another ripping sound and there is was....the VIN and velcro tape!  I'm a happy camper!!!!

Now if it will just quit raining long enough for me to ride it up to the courthouse.... Undecided
