Hey RJ..,.Since you and I have the same background I has a question fer ya. When I left LE they were trying to do away with the 10 code. Said it was confusing for new recruits??? Ever heard of such a thing? I can't remember much trouble getting to know it and using it, infact I still do and so does my department.
They still used it when I retired but one of my buddies in San Diego told me a few years later that it was gone. Here where I live now, my home town, the 10 Code is gone. I listen to my scanner some and some will use 10-04, or acknowledge, but I've not heard a 10 code used when an officer is down, or a PD accident, or a PI accident. It didn't take me too long to learn it, I was fluent in it out of the Academy. Used it clear up to retirement. I don't remember too much of it now after about 20+ years. We also never had Radar in our cars till I retired in 1986. They got Radar in 1987 and all cars were converted in 1990 with camera and radar. They made some big changes after 1986. I went out on July 1st. Do you ride a motor for the Dept? I got my 1st motor in 1957. It was a firkin Harley.

Nope, never did the scooter thing, always cruisers. When I retired like I said we were still using the 10 code, but it was dwindling. To me it made sense in some area's cause it was faster than trying to explain something and letting the scanner rats know the story??? I use it in the fire service and I have my guys use it. I don't want a bunch of idle chatter on the radio, just get to the point. I guess its a pro and con thing. (no pun intended) I do remember our first radar and it was in 72. We ran "Vas-Car". Noisy thing, big ol antenna, and would ghost terrible. Then came the "fun gun" or hand held, that was a blast. You could shoot that in any direction so it didn't matter where you sat, just roll down the windows and wellah. When I left we were getting into the upscale thing which you could roll and shoot vehicles coming and going. I wouldn't have traded any of what I did in LE. For 28 years It supported my family and the dogs made it more fun and interesting. It also cost me one marriage! Nothing like being bit, spit on, pewked on, bled on, and have consistent name changes daily. We survived it anyway thats the good thing!

Would I do my LEO duty again. You betcha, in a heart beat. Took a couple of slugs in the late 50's, after that I learned how to keep my arse down.
My Area (Lake Tahoe) we got to test a lot of the Cruisers the CHP was interested in. I had a Cuda 440 6 pak for about 6 weeks. If ya happened to let that SOB get loose, it would kill ya. Ya just tap the throttle and it would do a donut.
We tested AMX's, w/402 motor, Buick Specials, Nail head, Some Plymouth's Dodges, and a very nice Chrysler. Everyone in my Area got to drive these vehicles on duty for 3 days and then they had to answer a 62 question questionnaire that the people who wrote the specs had prepared.
The Chrysler Newport got better scores than all the others. So the Department ordered, 1 for every area. I was the one with the long straw, so I got it for 6 months, and weekly I had to report miles traveled, how many high speed chases, how long in miles did it take to capture the suspect, no matter who stopped them. That little Newport had a 440 staggered dual 4 bbl and a 727 tranny with a posi traction, 4 wheel disc brakes and it would stop on a dime and ring ya up $.09 change. It had close to 60K on it when they took it away from me. Gave me a damn Crown Vic. Hated those Vic's. If ya took off in a chase and spun both rear wheels it would stutter puke and fart. You had to reach in the glove box and punch the little button in there. Most Fords this was the gas shutoff in case ya was rear ended. We finally talked the Mechanics to put the switch by the siren switch, worked a lot better there. Some of my guys/gals liked them. My partner when we run double was a very sweet 5' nothing Black lady, and man I'd take her any day over a male partner. If she said she had your back, she had your back covered.
One time in an alley, we were investigating an alarm at a jewelry store, we encountered some suspects. I started to go talk to this one suspect and another one pulled an ankle 32 special. She told him to drop it, he told her she wasn't big enough to make him drop this gun. Again she said drop it. He said you are going to have to shoot me first. She said ok, and knocked his privates into his pant leg. He dropped it. They brought charges on both of us. The IA finally ruled 6 weeks later that he was trying to commit suicide by the Police.
We both had desk assignment until the IA ruled. Man that was a pain in the you know where. Motor set a home, and another officer picked us both us and took us home every night.

We had Plymouth Fury's with the 727s and 440s. Those were scary fast and when we go em I was used to driving Chevy's that in comparison were gutless. Loved the Chryslers with the big mills. Was shot at several times and never hit, close but lucky. I have been stabbed twice. Once under my right arm pit and the second in the chest, both with Buck knives. I shot one of the bastards and the second I broke his collar bone. He tried to bring police brutality charges against me but they threw it out, said I was justified. Never had a female partner but there were a few that could whip the average guys ass. I was privy to some of that and enjoyed every minute of it when we got to booking telling these fools they were just whipped by a girl! Would I do it again, like you, most definitely. It was our job to go to someone's bad day and try to make it better. Not unlike the fire service, when people were running away we were running in. Something to be proud of!

We have a company here that has Candy store cops as we called them on the Wet Coast.
Don't think they are licensed or anything legal to arrest.
They have called me several time to come join them and be a walking officer in the Mall.
Told them no thanks, I don't wear the uniform without a badge and the service belt. Haven't heard from them again.
I've also had the Federal Boys call me asking if I'd be interested in bringing subjects back that have been arrested in another state. Told them I didn't think so, I'd had enough of the paddie wagon BS.

My home town only had 1,100 people till they build Lake Panorama, which has some very high priced homes built. The big retired Dodge dealer in DSM built a 1.2 millon $$$$ home up there.
Some of the ground under the lake was our old homestead when I was growing up. F***ing Banker beat mom out of a very large sum of $$$ they got when they sold the farm. When I was employed in California, mom moved out there also and she rented the farm. The Lake Assoc was buying up all the ground they needed to build the lake. Since we were in Calif, we didn't know this was going on. The Banker called and said he had a buyer for the farm if she was interestred in selling it. The renter had moved on that fall, so Mom said ok. The banker told her he was getting $900 per acre. So she sold out. She got $90K for 100 acres. The f***ing banker took the remaining $$$ and put it in his personal acct. The farm sold for $1.2 million. Found this out after the sneaky dude died. Bank was audited and all these strange amt's were depositied in his checking acct. When it was discovered, it was too late for mom to make a claim.

JimmyT, I added Carl to our Prayer list at Church.
He will get 90 prayers everyday until I remove his name.
Don't have to have any affiliation of the recipient, to get these prayers said for you.

Well, I sent Willow an email in the hospital. I think this to be a helluva way to try and get the "last word", and thats what I told him. However, do you guys think we should let Willow win? When he gets out of the hospital I think the board will be under his nose more than ever. WE ARE IN TROUBLE!

I kind of fell into that rank.
I was Senior Sgt, our Capt retired, and no one paid any interest in the job cause we were in the MTN, Donner Pass.
So, the Chief offered it to me as long as I passed the test. Got the test, studied it for about 3 weeks and took it, it was a 95 item questionnaire, and I think it was 2 that I missed. The next week I was promoted. Then of course, some jackass in San Diego said he wanted it.
The Chief denied his request/complaint. Told him how long it had been on the Board and there was no way you could not of seen it in 90 days. Case denied. I jumped Louie and went straight to Capt. By the way, they never got my Motor and they never got me stuck behind a desk. I was on the road Motor/Cruiser taking trips right along with my other guys.

They offered my the LTs job but I turned it down. I was on days already and in charge of road patrol and that was where I wanted to be. Still taking complaints when necessary but NOT in the office which is where the Lt spent most of his day. Not for me!

Wow MOM, down about 5 pages to make contact.
With Willow not on the board it has kind of gone to the birds.
Guess we will have to step up to the plate and make this old girl pop.
Everybody have a safe trip home tomorrow.
