I'm no big fan of Harleys, but that is still sad news.  Plant in York builds tourers and softails.
They are talking with unions.
H-D may be negotiating with the unions to cut labor costs to keep plant open.
Remember when...?....... when a 40-something guy with a new tattoo would plunk down a deposit and wait for 3-4 months before he got his Evo engined beauty ?
Like it was yesterday.........  Cry

I worked a Harley Open house this past weekend, promoting Ride For Kids.  Yes, they let me have a table as I am a customer of the shop.  Place was packed and they were selling bikes.  Times are tough and lots of downsizing going on everywhere.

Hope the economy starts bouncing back soon.

Me too also. Wouldn't keep a harley if somebody GAVE it to me, but I don't want
to see them shutting down plants. Probably only going to get worse....but then
it's supposed to get worse anyway!  Undecided

I'd take one, but no garage space for it right now.  Now if Lady Di would just leave her car outside on the drive..... 2funny

I'm right there with ya. My wife's car takes one side, and my Valk the other. My '97 F150 sits out in the drive way. Funny thing is, it only has 70,000 miles and the paint is crap. It's rusting and it has paint peeling off. Then there's my '97 Valk with over 100,000 miles. The paint still looks showroom new. I think I need a third garage.

like any bike, The HD's have small things, bugs, to work out. I still might buy an electra-glide classic. real nice touring bike and easy on the gas. once its up to speed, no vibration. just dont care for the whole HOG thing or the attitude. only reason I havent bought one. my accountant has one. geez. showed up for dinner after playing polo...still had his boots on...maybe i wont buy one...just thinking abou tit makes me sick but, I hate to see such a nice place and some great people be out of work. I have known many who worked there, and family to friends of mine who still work there. I toured the place and it is a nice place to work. nice place to visit. Id work there if theyd let me:D

  Sad
We toured that plant in the late 90's. Very cool place. Our guide was about 5 feet tall and there was a 7 footer in our group who claimed to be Hulk Hogan's brother.

Harley plant may be closing? Oh how sad.

How many are saddened by the Honda Marysville plant no longer producing domestic motorcycles? Sheesh!

For the people working at the HD plant, it IS sad. Both plant's closing (HD & Honda) sucks.

I have a friend and he is a long time HD Ultra rider.  He bought a new 2009 HD Ultra last week.  I watched the process from begining to end. The High Desert HD in Meridian, Idaho (new 7 million dollar store) treated him very well. He had a loaner to ride all day to see if he liked the new and improved Ultra. They really did a great job at customer service.  I have to admit the new Ultra looked like the old ones but handled much better.  It was smooth with the six speed tranny and belt drive.  Cooling problems addressed.  Paint was outstanding.  Great intercomm and stereo.  He got 48 mpg on the loaner.   My local Honda/Kawa/Everything else dealer has terrible take-it-or-leave-it service.  The new Nomad hasn't even presold!  They have never seen that before.  I will never wearout the Valk but I would buy a new Ultra if I had to do so.

Yes, I remember the HD wait list as if it were yesterday...In 1990 I wanted a HD full dresser so bad I couldn't sleep...Burgundhy / black. I went to the dealer with a check. They told me there would be at least a 4 month wait. I told them to let somebody else wait... I'm going to a motorcycle dealership who sells bikes. At the Honda place where I've done business for decades sat an '89 Burgundy Wing with 3800 miles. It was a trade in for a new Volvo next door that the Honda dealer own as well. The Wing was on the showroom floor and looked like all the new bikes there.. I bought it for $8500.00 and sold it 8 yrs later when I bought the 98 Valk....Lucky me...My Mother always told me everything has a reason.... cooldude

Well I know a guy in the SCRC who I ride with some.  He bought a new one.  He complains that the rear floorboard hits him in the calf everytime he puts his foot down to stop.  Kinda looks dangerous to me, if he puts his foot down on a rolling stop he could come back with a broke leg or ripped out knee.  I see TV lawyer coolsmiley commercials in Harley's future.  Also he bought the "add on bags" that snap over the bag bars.  They dont fit because of the same reason.  Not enough room for them, the passenger board, and his leg.  But he's a Harley guy and loves to ride em so I am sure he will figure it out.

Ride safe
