Some time ago someone on this board was lamenting that they wished a new Valkyrie if one came out would be fuel injected because it would be more environmental friendly. Well based on some testing we went through today at an Arizona Emission testing station that may not be the case.

There were three of us in line this afternoon to have out bikes tested.  Check out the numbers and remember that both Harleys were fuel injected.  The Arizona test is only an idle test but it shows that not all fuel injected motors are better than carbureted motors.  Oh by the way my Valk is as stock as they come and the owners of the Hareys claimed they had nothing done to their bikes

            HC   Standard( Allowable)   CO     Standard
2008 Harley         528            3.85
1999 Valk Interstate      274   1800         1.55   5.50
2006 Harley          652            4.10

I forgot to copy the standard against which their bikes are tested but maybe it is the same as for the Valk.  Either way at idle which is all they test, my 6 carburetors did way better than their fuel injection.
Yea for OLD SCHOOL!!!

Sorry things got all jumbled up.  It was all nicely formatted before it posted but then something happened so I will try again.
The standard against which my bike is tested is 1800 for HC and 5.50 for CO at idle.
My 1999 Valk Interstate read 274 HC and 1.55 CO
2008 Harley read 528 HC and 3.85 CO
2006 Harley read 652 HC and 4.10 CO

Harley's should not run as lean as our Valks {lean translates to hot} if they do they risk imploding the motors. Air cooled will in most cases need to be higher along with the Harley sound make for a not so emissions friendly bike. I would have like to seen the numbers on a carburetor version. As you already found out our bikes do run lean and it is ok it will not hurt anything because ours are water cooled. Some guys worry about the damage done to our bikes from putting on a less restrictive exhaust. They rejet not because of power but because of damage to the engines. You will not damage a Valk running it lean.

Careful there Robert, your post borders on Harley bashing. That's not allowed here on a Honda Valkyrie forum.  Grin
