I have searched the board and only found a couple of posts about this issue. I am just completeing a carb rebuild and like a dummy I pulled the heat shield to remove the carb bank. (Save the "your a fool" remarks, I am already kicking myself!) I reinstalled the bank and then remembered the shield. As many of you might realize at this point, reinstalling the shield is a %^$^*& problem. My question is do I have to detach the carb bank again to fight the shield in to place or can it be installed (read beaten) in to place with out the bank loose. Any tips from someone who has been there? Considering any options at this point. Have been considering possibly heating the plastic to be more flexible? Maybe a cut at a strategic location? Or bit the bullet and loosen the bank again? Thanks in advance, this board has saved my butt more than once!!

Oppps..Sorry. We both know to do it right you have to remove the bank and re install the heat shield.

Hey Scottie, just lay it out in the sun to soften it a bit, then try it. Oh....I forgot, you don't have sunshine in Maine in the winter. Swipe your gal's hair dryer then, might work just as good....if you're quick enough before it cools back down. Sorry buddy, just had to zing you a bit after you left us down here.

There have been a few posts regarding the subject on reinstalling the radiator shield without having to remove the carburetor bank.
Search would be the course of action I would recommend.

Ouch John! I will give the hair dryer a try, that was my next plan. I do miss the sunshine a lot, but I have to say my Lady more than warms me enough to make up for it I do keep up on the board down there and try to contain my jealousy.

Thanks for chiming in Ricy-D, but unfortunately the only thing search turns up is some comments about leaving the shield out. I prefer things back to the way they were designed for the most part.

Here's one thread I found and is probably the one I was thinking about. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,37092.0.htmlI used "air deflector" as the search word. Ya hafta be resourceful! There's more in there still, I didn't want to belabor this thread. ***

Thanks for the heads up Pup, my edges weren't to sharp, but it did make me aware that they were sliding on the harness while installing it. And yes it is installed!! I was able to get it back in place without moving the carb bank and I only had to disconnect the choke cable and remove the coil again. I now know it can be done, but it takes a lot of patience and determination!!! Thanks for the help guys!!
