I love science but this is just garbage. Governments around the world spent millions of dollars on vaccines and people panicked yet the new report comes out that it may not be as bad as what was thought. I can remember governments making priority lists of whos going to get shots and whos not  talk of the financing to obtain the vaccines makers couldn't make them fast enough blah blah blah blah. The laws enacted about vaccines even down to school kids and how many parents were given grief because they may not have wanted to give flu shots to their kids. There are times I do worry and do get up in the middle of the night stewing but I think who is really in control, we have our little talk and I go back to bed. I wonder if the scientists ever stay awake at night stewing about the accuracy of their findings. As with global warming and the newest debacle in this war that a prominent scientist took research that wasn't his. Really even the stats on the deaths of motorcyclists not wearing helmets is up well none take into the account that the number of riders is way up also and especially of course new riders. So I resign to listen more to the one who really is in control and listen less to the knowing, educated ones, the ones held up as in the know. There is another post about your time being up well its up when my maker says its up. I am here till Im not and then I know where Ill be. Good luck to all trying to get through the prophesied maze of scares of Iran wars, terrorists bombings, financial collapses, and all other goblins that prey on mens minds. there is one peace and one who knows there is no other. Sorry for the rant, but most who are in the know dont know c##p.

Robert, I'm with you brother. I am amazed at all of the scientific discoveries and highly educated minds that are proven wrong a few years later and you just have to chalk it up as educated idiocy.  I don't get flu shots made from a strain of their, best guess for this year stuff. I worked for 42 years in the medical field and watched all my co-workers get them and get the flue anyway. My wifes cousin and husband are down with flue now and they got the flu shots.  Rant, rant crazy2 but anyway, I love science too, just don't have 100% confidence in it. My confidence is in the Lord.  Like Britman said, smoke and mirrors.

They said WHEN the bird flu was happening that it was VERY prolific, but not a very intense flu.  At least they did if you LISTENED.  I knew that when it was going on.

The worse case of flu I've had in my life came about 4 days after getting my one and only flu shot....I was so sick that I spent three days in the hospital....No more flu shots for Joe ....EVER.

Well, all viruses are prolific, bird flu included. Problem with flu is you never know what it's going to be till it begins since it evolves so quickly. What is not intense this go around, may be next go around after it evolves, so who knows? I am definitely no expert, and don't claim to be, but I do know what I know and,(knock on wood), I don't plan on taking any flue shots, ever. Scientists can hypothesize all they want, but if I have learned anything about medicine, it is that it is not an exact science. Things happen all the time that aren't suppose to.

My Grandfather lost two brothers and sister in one week during the 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic.   Sad

The Symptoms of the Spanish Flu:

The victims of the 1918 Spanish flu suffered greatly. Within hours of feeling the first symptoms of extreme fatigue, fever, and headache, victims would start turning blue. Sometimes the blue color became so pronounced that it was difficult to determine a patient's original skin color. The patients would cough with such force that some even tore their abdominal muscles. Foamy blood exited from their mouths and noses. A few bled from their ears. Some vomited; others became incontinent.

The Spanish flu struck so suddenly and severely that many of its victims died within hours of coming down with their first symptom. Some died a day or two after realizing they were sick.

To this day, no one knows why the flu virus suddenly mutated into such a deadly form. Nor do they know how to prevent it from happening again. Scientists and researchers continue to research and learn about the 1918 Spanish flu in the hopes of being able to prevent another worldwide pandemic of the flu.

I have read that a flu pandemic (similar to the one in the early 20th century that killed millions) is more probable than most of the other doomsday scenarios floating about.  But the probabilities are still very small.  Since I retired and don't go on trains and to a workplace with thousands of people everyday, I have not had a single virus or cold of any type.  The good news on a flu pandemic is, it runs its course in about six weeks.  If so, I can easily go six weeks and not leave the house.

I drive a school bus and get exposed to who knows what from the kids. I get a mild sniffle about every Sept.

Paul, I suspect you are so overexposed to child snot that your immune system is nearly bulletproof.

Electric cattle prods, duct tape and pepper spray.

OH ! You mean not get a cold. Not how do I handle the kids on the bus. Oops.

I dunno. Don't smoke. Drink lots of water, thats all I drink at home. Lotsa fresh fruit - citrus. Only eat red meat if I eat out. Weight train to exhaustion 4 or 5 times a week. Ride a bicycle when the weather is warm enough.

Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer on the bus and wipe down handrails etc with disinfectant wipes.  Grin
