Don't threaten me with a good time

Greeneville, TN

« on: February 24, 2012, 05:21:43 PM »

Just thinking about how much I'm bummed that the NFL is done until next season. What is you favorite moment in sports, rather it be baseball, Olympic games, soccer, lacrosse. My top favorites of all time

#1 1999 St. Louis Rams "Greatest Show on Turf"
- I believe sometime in the future, there will be a movie made about Kurt Warner's life.  A person who went from working the night shift at a local grocery store to Superbowl MVP and champion in one season. Possibly a future Hall of Fame member as well.

NFLFilms 1999 St. Louis Rams Season Highlights PT. 2powered by Aeva

#2 Sometimes, the X-games are not considered a professional sporting event. IMO, its one of the greatest things to watch next to the NFL. Travis Pastrana was the first person ever to perform a perfect double back flip in free-style motocross competition. I'll never forget it.

Yeah, yeah, I know.

No padding, no helmets, only 15 guys a side on the field, only 7 substitutes each side, only 40 minutes each half of non stop play

But this is a moment in sport that made my eyes moist.

2005 Michigan vs. Penn State

One second left and Michigan down by 4 points.

We were right in the corner of the end zone near the point of the "M". The place exploded with cheers, literally the whole stadium shook. Plus, Manningham is a local product of Warren, Ohio. Being there is what made it so great.

Gotta admit I've never been big into sports, but I have a lot more respect and admiration for the stories about those who are in it for the love of the game instead of millions of dollars...

The Tampa Bay Bucs winning Super Bowl 37. Actually I think I was more moved when the Bucs beat the Eagles in Philly for the NFC title. It closed out the "Vet" with a humiliating defeat for the Eagles & I knew whichever team the AFC sent to face the Bucs was doomed. It was true.
Any of the FSU Seminoles National Championships are right up there.
Recently, the University of South Florida Bulls road win over Notre Dame last year is one of the best for me.

BTW Britman, I think the baseball "World Series" title is appropriate as the world's best players are already in the MLB. Check out the international flavor of the rosters.  cooldude

Sure, international players, but having teams from the USA and Canada doesn't really encompass "the world" does it?

The Bruins winning the Stanley Cup last year. Better than every other Boston championship I've witnessed put together. It was particularly special because they beat a bunch of gutless, flopping softies.

My favorite moment was not a famous one.  I was a transplanted Yankees fan watching them play the Angels in Anaheim Ca.  Lou Pinella was at the end of his career.  It was late in the game, and the Yanks were way behind.  Lou went to center field after being put in as a pinch hitter.  One of the Angels hit a deep fly ball to center.  Lou ran, and ran, and ran.  He jumped up against the wall and was able to barely pull it in.  But he did it.  He robbed them of a home run when his own team was so far behind it really didn't matter.

2nd favorite.  Yanks were in the World Series against LA.  Lou Pinella was in right.  He lost a high, shallow fly ball in the lights.  So he pulled up, and started to pound his glove like he was waiting to catch it.  Runner was totally faked out and held at first as the ball hit the ground next to Lou, who dove sideways to get it on one hop.

My favorite is also a Bo Jackson play..."a baseball play"
Bo Jackson is famous for throwing out Harold Reynolds at home plate from the warning track......
but, I also saw him throw out a runner at first base from left field wall during a game between the minor league team, memphis chicks (Kansas City Royals) and the Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinatti reds at that time)
He was one of the greatest atheletes in both baseball and football!!!

Larry Bird & Magic in the 79 championship game.
The Sycamores went undefeated and reached No. 1 in Bird's senior year--that is, until a Michigan State team featuring a 6-9 guard named Earvin "Magic" Johnson knocked them off in the 1979 NCAA Championship Game, one of the most widely watched showdowns in basketball history. Bird was named the 1978-79 College Player of the Year and left ISU as the fifth-highest scorer in NCAA history. The Sycamores had gone 81-13 during Bird's three-year career.

Went to Deer Valley/Park City with some buddies for about 10 years during the Sundance Film Festival to ski.  Nobody skiing and slopes to ourselves.  Did the same with Super Bowl.  Nice!
