I planning on getting my first smart phones for when I travel with Valk and was wondering what everyone thought about which is best. I-phone or and Android I been using Verizon for 20 years but my contract is over and could switch. Been paying $67.00 per month for two phones and it will cost me about $140 per month to add texting and data for two smart phones. I know it not really Valk related but travel related

I-Phone is top notch... However, I don't like Apple due to their old style stuff where you were forced to buy a $50 cable just to charge the thing... so I went Android. It's almost as good as the I-Phone, and the apps are decent also.

A couple of Smart Talk phones from Wally World would give you unlimited talk, text and web for $90 a month. That saves you $600 a year to spend in bling.

If Sprint is in your area then I'd try like heck to piggyback on someone's employee plan. I have many friends that do and they pay $30 per month for unlimited everything. I live in the Kansas City area so there are many employees to share their plans. Sprint is generally great in near cities but a bit more spotty out in the country, or so I'm told.
I'd also say that talking Android or Apple is a lot like talking politics. I prefer Android, specifically the Samsung Galaxy S II. Love it.
Good luck in your search.

For travel I'd avoid Sprint and stick to AT&T or Verizon. I have a work phone on Sprint and I can't get a signal with it half the time even in metro areas. Asking which phone is kinda like asking who to marry or what kinda motorcycle to ride, but I REALLY like Android, and specifically the Samsung Galaxy S line. I'm on my third now (Other 2 still working, as I upgrade the other family members get my old phones.) My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (The faster CPU and LTE G4 version of the Galaxy S2). The phone is more powerful than the vast majority of computers I've ever owned (Dual core 1.5 GhZ CPU). I love it, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. I personally don't like the "Walled Garden" approach of the iPhone, and I find Apple's business ethics totally repugnant and will not buy an Apple product because of them, but I still think the Android is the better phone. (I don't like that Apple has resorted to competing through litigation and trying to sue the competition out of the market instead of just trying to make a better product.) (Only mentioning that last part for full disclosure. )

You will never be able to make an intelligent decision based on what others have to say. Everybody is prejudiced for whatever they own and are convinced it's the best. They will all give you some kind of reason theirs is best and how they decided to go with it over some other choice. Be particularly wary of the Apple Haters who "hate Apple because ...". I know I'm not offering any help here but my opinion would be just like everybody else's. I'm a diehard Apple user who runs my own company named Mr. Mac. What does that tell you? What would help you most would be to see if you can get some idea about how many folks bought Android phones when they weren't available on any network other than AT&T and then switched to iPhones as soon as they could when Verizon started selling them. Personally I think it's strange to buy something thats a knockoff copy of an original and call it "good enough".

Personally I think it's strange to buy something thats a knockoff copy of an original and call it "good enough". Kind of like an iPhone? (which is something of a knockoff of the Blackberry). I would also caution you against listening to fanboys. Look, I'm typing this on a Mac. I think Macs are (with a few exceptions) flat out better than Windows machines. I bought my daughter an iPad2 for Christmas this year and it's a pretty freaking badass piece of kit... ...BUT I will not own an iPhone for myself or an iPad. Why? Because of Apple's restrictive policy and closed development (for instance; refusal to allow Adobe flash to operate on those devices) forcing you to buy apps. I have an HTC Rezound. No screwing with Apple store, iTunes (which is a virus) and supporting Apple's incestuous relationship with the MPAA or RIAA. When I want to add music from MP3's I drag and drop. I have thousands more apps to chose from (and they've all worked fine). Granted the iPhone MIGHT run a little quicker and there is some security in knowing that the apps are tested and approved, but it's not enough to justify the headaches or restrictiveness. Oh and check this out; I've come to the conclusion that I will never own an iPhone only after dealing with my daughter's iPad for a couple of weeks. You see, I tried to get an iPhone a week before Christmas but Apple wasn't shipping. Oh, they had plenty of them, but Apple was doing their typical dicketry with market manipulation. So I bought the Rezound instead. Nice move Apple. They've become everything that the 1984 commercial railed against. Apple fanboys, those drones are YOU...
Come to think of it, the guy on the screen looks a bit like Steve Jobs.

Mine and my sons have been operating that way for 2 years, no problems and thousands of apps that apple does not support work just fine.

Seriously?? All I can say is Meanwhile back in the real world. I've got an iPhone 4S with an app called Navagon ($15.00) I also got a case called "Otter Box." Makes the thing almost indestructible. I mounted the belt clip to the top of my triple tree were I can just snap the phone into it. In conjunction with a blue-tooth stereo head set, I can use the phone as a GPS unit while listening to my tunes. I've also got a camera (both still and video), can listen to pod casts or watch video. I've got the Internet with me in most places which can be very handy for getting info or doing research when I'm someplace I haven't been before. I'm on the AT&T network which has good coverage in my area. (Iffy in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.) You might be able to do the same thing with Android. I just wouldn't know which model or apps you'd need

On my 4th iPhone; went from the 1st generation through to a 4S. On AT&T. No complaints about either. When I want to use the phone, it works... except in Franklin WVA. When I need some sort of application to handle some minor life task; "there's a app for that". And plain and simple, the apps work.
Now that being said, cell phones and their carriers are like congressmen.... yours is the best and everyone else's suck.

Because of Apple's restrictive policy and closed development (for instance; refusal to allow Adobe flash to operate on those devices) forcing you to buy apps.
The slam about iPhones not running Flash is so over stated. Flash (ecsp. mobile) is a TERRIBLE product that is filled with security concerns. It's so bad that Adobe themselves have announced they killing it. " Adobe confirmed this morning that it will cease all development of mobile versions of Flash. That means that Android, BlackBerry OS, and other devices that had touted Flash capability as one of their key selling points will soon no longer matter. 11/2011" I'm glad you are able to test one before you buy Mongo. I personally like the iPhone but I have many friends who love their Android. It's like arguing between a Goldwing and Valkyrie - each has their merits and their fans.

Man YOU GUYS REALLY Take your Smart Phones seriously. Frankly, I don't see where the initial insult came from. Apple fanboys, those drones are YOU... 1984 Apple's Macintosh CommercialCome to think of it, the guy on the screen looks a bit like Steve Jobs. The trading of insults is quite obvious here: Anvil, sometimes you can't help yourself. You just have to be a dick. I purposefully wrote my note in a way not to start a war but that didn't suit you. I couldn't care one damn bit less of your opinion or what you think about Apple or their ways of doing business. You had no reason to label me other than to just show that you're still a wiseass. Take your attitude and shove it. Yeah I'm calling BS on this. You wrote this line: "Personally I think it's strange to buy something thats a knockoff copy of an original and call it "good enough". crazy2 " That's just begging to be called out. Apple did not invent the smartphone and you know it. Also you offered this: "Be particularly wary of the Apple Haters who "hate Apple because ..."." Well the opposite of haters is fanboys who ignore the shortcomings and tout the product (especially when they have a financial interest in the company). You know it's an inflammatory topic so if you don't like it then you can take YOUR opinion, write it on a pineapple and shove it in your balloon knot. Man YOU GUYS REALLY Take your Smart Phones seriously. Frankly, I don't see where the initial insult came from. Could it be that you fellows are a little "sensitive" when it comes to dealing with each other ? Well, since you went to all that trouble of quoting and asking where the insults started... It started because Anvil started throwing around the word "fanboy", which was directed at me. I run into that juvenile stuff all the time in forums where 16 year olds hang out and argue over the merits of operating systems. Just didn't expect it from somebody who normally seems to be pretty darn intelligent. I've always found Anvil to be smart, even if he's an ass. But he's never directly pointed his righteous attitude at me so I've just always sit and watched him insult other folks. My original post was directed to the original poster, not at Anvil, so he should have done likewise. Jump me, I jump back. Now, since we're in kindergarten, I'm going back out t play.

Seriously?? All I can say is You can say the sky is purple. That doesn't make it true. The iPhone is just the logical next step beyond the Blackberry. The original iPhone was not the revolution that people remember it as.Meanwhile back in the real world. I just wouldn't know which model or apps you'd need There's no "might" about it. You can do all of that with a droid. The iPhone's big selling point now is that you can make it bitch reminders at you. And people who bash flash completely miss the point; that Apple doesn't allow it on their products because they're heavy-handed tacos. There's a bigger picture at work here.

I will stay on topic. Straight talk from wal mart seems good. Their android phones have bad coverage, as you can see from the maps above. I have ST and like it. Kit had it going out west. My AT&T was dead soon as i hit So Dakota. Her ST had signal everywhere, even in the badlands. ST runs off of verizons towers. For only $45 a month for unlimited text, calls, and web, its the way to go.

It started because Anvil started throwing around the word "fanboy", which was directed at me. Whoa, that was not (initially anyway) aimed at you directly.

A fanboy is someone totally in love with a particular brand, quite often associated with Apple, but Sony, Nintendo, Android, Microsoft, you could even make an argument for Honda Valkyrie fan boys... The distinguishing factor that makes a fanboy a fanboy is that they feel the need to get into arguments about why "their" brand is better, and will generally NEVER concede any fault with "their" chosen brand.

"Fanboy" -- usually spelled as "fanbois". It's a favorite term used by teenagers in various forums to ridicule others, in a derogatory manner, who prefer a different "whatever"... like computer operating systems or phones, etc. Normally not used by educated adults who have better communication skills.

I have the Blackberry Storm and the wife has the Iphone 4s. I can do almost everything with the BB she can do on the IPhone, but I have a real keyboard. Can't get used to those screen tap things. On the AT&T network and it has good coverage. I'm writing this reply on that Blackberry.
I think you will find any smartphone better than what you are using now. But check out the feel and touch before deciding. You might want an actual keyboard as well.

I have a Rezound from Verizon as well. I have had Iphones but for me there is no comparision. MP3 directly from my desktop or Amazon or Itunes or wherever the heck I want to get them. Removable sd card and battery if I want to upgrade. I can get a 32g card for $20 and swap them out whenever I want, I don't have to buy a new phone. Instant connect via usb to my desktop and can drag and drop files from anywhere on my computer to my phone. Open source, free apps, navigation, etc. I have nothing extra I have to pay for. Oh, and I'm rooted and the development for Android is outstanding! 8mb camera on the back 2mb on the front, NFL mobile for streaming games, mobile hotspot, 4G instead of 3G, bigger screen with better resolution etc..etc.. I could go on and on.
