Cool pix.  Cool beasts.

Are they rescues, pets, or both?  Is it a vocational relationship?

You have a common hobby with Fred, aka Wolfman, a Valk owner in SE Louisiana.  He has several wolves in large pens on his 4 acres.  He said the males could be penned together but the females were very territorial and had to have their own pens.  He had a male with a tail missing due to laying up against the matron bitches pen.  She bit it off.

You can't really tell by these pix but Derango the male is much bigger then Teraha (the lighter one) but you can see she is in control even when they play together

I think it's great that someone does this but, it's not for me.    My BIL had a next door neighbor that raised Mixed wolf pups and sold them.  He said they were 90 some percent wolf.  Don't really know but, what I do know is that when we would go over and visit or borrow or return a tool, we'd always go look at the wolves.  His big alpha female scared the hell out of me and I won't deny it.  When she looked at me, I could tell she was sizing me up.   Most likely wondering if she could take me in one or two bites.   Cry  I'm convinced one would have been sufficient.

Very cool animals but not one I could ever trust.

I would hate to be your neighbor regardless of the fact I was born at St. Thomas Hospital.
I just wouldn't want to hear the howling.  Evil

That said, I'll stick with Akita's.
This was my buddy. He's gone now.

Had him with me in Chicago and had a neighbor with 3 Malamutes who hated my little buddy.
The arshole use to watch for me to come home and then release all 3 into the 'hood. 2 Males, 1 Female.
They always attacked and I always got caught in the middle. My guy would back 'em all off then rear up on his hind legs as if to say "which one of you mothers is first" With the males bigger then him he would throw the female out first, then take down the oldest male then the young male.

He always kicked their butts, it was bloody - more often for the malamutes..

Stopped a Chicago squad one day to complain and their response was to carry a baseball bat and use it. Yeah right then I'm facing charges.

My point is, those Malamutes looked like a pack of wolves looking for trouble as I came down the street. I knew there was going to trouble, but I had to get my guy outside since he'd been inside all day.
It really sucked.
There wasn't a dog in the 'hood that wouldn't attack him. Toy Poodles, Labs, Boxers and more.
Tell ya, the one dog he had a hard time with was a 40# Boxer. That was one mean medium sized dog.

A few gang bangers in the hood wanted me to fight him. No Thanks and we just did our neighborhood watch thing of sorts. BTW, my guy was always on a leash. I only took him off so he could defend himself without getting tangled up when I knew an attack was inevitable.

Edit: BTW I never meant to insinuate an Akita could take on real wolves. That would be crazy to me.

Thats cool. I had a 90% wolf 10% malamute pup once. It got parvo a few days after bringing him home.  Cry Loved hearing him howl at night. Our German Shepard growing up was 1/4 wolf. Best dog we had as a kid.

Ya know what? I'm scared of dogs. I'm scared of little dogs and big dogs and medium sized dogs.

Wolves? You couldn't pay me to get anywhere near those beautiful pets of yours! I probably wouldn't even want to come over to visit you, just in case they might get loose. Yeah, they're really good looking animals and they appear to be friendly enough in the pictures. But I don't have a doubt in my mind that they would rip my jugular apart on a whim. They have that look in their eyes that plainly says "I'll kill you right now!".  Shocked

I never seen the movie, maybe I ought to watch it, just to see how far fetched it is. I seen cujo and I don't think St. Bernards  are all bad.

Yes they really do belong in the wild, but did you know they live longer and are healthier in captivity.Something like the Cleveland zoo would be ideal for them

Never had a break in or anyone cutting through the back of my property. In reality a German Shepard would make a better watch dog. Wolves are curious but would rather watch someone break in and not get involved as long as you left them alone.

To each is own for choice of pets, but how does one end up owning wolves in Ohio. Didn't think they were all that common in the midwest(ish) area?

Mine are rescues, some as pups. but in Ohio you can own tigers, lions, bears, cougars, leopards and so on as long as you have the money and are not breaking any ordinance.Mine are from peeps who got them  and  found out they are not what they really wanted, their choice was to put them down or find someone to take them.

Yes wolves do hunt and kill to survive (to eat) but in doing so the also hunt the weaker animals because they are easier to take down and that strengthens the herd but hunters ( i'm not against hunting ) take the biggest, the best trophy that's out there at the time and in doing so weakens the herd. By the way man is a much bigger killer of deer, elk, bear and moose then wolves.
In Ohio every year the state and counties hire sharp shooters to thin the herd, usually about 500 at a time.In my  opinion Ohio could use a few wolf packs in some of it's wilderness areas.

just the OPPOSITE here.. fish and game has now FINALLY won a federal court battle against the wolf lovers o allow hunting, and trapping of wolves... they are also shooting some themselves from helicopters..ya see the "weak" also includes babies.. by my cabin there were 4 winter elk feeding grounds.. we fed over 1000 head of elk there for several years.. one day while going to the feeding grounds i counted 28 dead calfs.. all hat was eaten was a hole in their side about the size of a football... they seem to like some certain entralls..in somewhere around 10 years there are virtually no elk left in that area.. at my buddies cabin 80 miles away here was an elk calving grounds on his property.. he has video of the wolves tearin the babies out of the mothers as they were calving.. soo like I said b4 I am sure your heart is in the right place but mannny people dont reeeally understand what killing machines wolves really are.. btw just out of curiosity didnt ohio adopt some sort of law about harboring wild animal species after the debaucle at zanesville with the big cats?

Great job on the rescues. My wife and I also do some rescues. We rescue pit bulls. Most people don't realize that a 70 to 110 # dog is a hand full to deal with. This is a pic of one of our rescues.Just ferocious don't you think. It always takes a animal time to adjust, I think he adjusted well.I have made this statement for years; There aren't bad dogs, just bad owners.
