I'm looking to replace my shield, and it seems like a lot of members recommend the Clearview.  I've noticed the Clearview and many others do not have a cut out for the headlight.....as does the OEM. (more windshield)

I've read many places that wind coming from under the shield then hitting the gas tank can cause quite a bit of helmet buffeting.

So, for those who have replaced their OEM's with similiar styles, have you noticed a difference by having "less" shield in place.  Any buffeting issues?Harder to smoke while riding? 2funny

I swapped from a full sized OEM to a shorter Clearview. I could have taken
up smoking when I had the OEM, but I don't even like to leave the
faceshield up on my helmet with the Clearview. I figured it was because
the clearview was shorter, I guess some of the wind could be coming up
from below the light...

Whatever, shorter rules, cause you can see when it is raining!

Presently I have what I thought was an OEM, (but it is only 19" from Headlight perhaps it was cut down.)....Are not the OEM 21"??  I do have the OEM mounting hardware.

I"m 6'2, no problem seeing over the present one, and I do prefer looking over the shield.  Presently if I sit up correctly, my head catches the wind coming over the shield......so I do need about 2 more inches...(don't we all?? cooldude)...

I replaced the OEM with an OEM sized Clearview, and the part under the headlight, or lack there of, didn't seem to make a difference.  I am also 6'2", and the top of the OEM/OEM sized Clearview was right in the line of sight.  I didn't mind that, but a few years later wanted a 'tinted' shield, and ordered another Clearview tinted, but 2" shorter (same width).  Now I see over the shield very nicely, and the added exposure to the wind isn't bad with the look being a bit cooler  Wink .

They all have a cut out for the headlight as the headlight does not shine through the windshiled.. The Hondaline windshield does have part of the shield running under the light, while aftermarket just have an opening for the light but not anything below it.
I do not believe the portion of the windshield under the headlight on the Hondaline product prevents much wind from causing buffeting.
The wind coming up from under the tank can best be controlled with fork lowers ar Baker Air Wings as that wind comes primarily from the sides of the tank.

Black Dog....when you replaced with the Clearview, was it the same size as the OEM?  Was your OEM right in the sight?

Of course I guess height is subjective as well, as it pertains more to torso length....

Right, the replacement Clearview was the same size as the OEM it replaced, and both were right in my line of sight.  The second, tinted Clearview, was ordered 2" shorter, and now I look over it without any obstruction.

I have a Clearview that is +2 wider and like it very much.   cooldude  The vent well worth getting- it equalizes the pressure behind the wind shield while you are in motion and it reduces buffetting, like when following a semi.

Also, Baker Air wings are very good at eliminating the wind that comes up from the tank- would not be without them.

The cutout for the headlight is a non-factor. The little strip under the headlight on the OEM made little to no difference in wind management.

Clearview is very nice to deal with, I bought a 'factory blemish' for a reduced price and honestly could not see any flaw whatsoever.  They shipped very fast so I could have the sheild for a trip.  Clearview with Bakers are very good for wind management.   Smiley

From what I can tell, the model with a vent  will prohibit use of a pouch bag that is mounted to the shield??

a smaller one will usually work- it's below the vent
