Need to specify, members of this message board or members of the VRCC? They're not necessarily the same thing...

You are right, how many vrcc members from everywhere doesn't matter to me if active or not as long as they are still members , just wanted to know the total vrcc members. Smiley

   Thank you.

It's not really possible to tell.  Members don't de-register when they move on.  There are no annual dues, so identifying who is still "active" even is ambiguous.

As to the message boards we've had:
660 logged in today
1160 in the past week
1605 in the past month
1892 in the past two months
2107 in the past three months

It's safe to say that we have a lot of people who read the boards but don't bother to log in.

We have several regional boards that likely have a few hundred members who never log in to the national boards.

My estimate would be between three and four thousand, but that is a best guess, a best not-so-very-educated guess.

I don't believe that basing our membership on how many log into the message board is particularly accurate.
There are many members that don't ever frequent the message board.  As evidenced by the responses I get when we send out mass emails for InZane.
Also, we have a huge member base in other countries that don't log in here.

Sorry Willow, but I think our membership base is substantially larger than your guesstimate.

Hmmm... even though my guess doesn't apparently count, perhaps I should clarify.

I was referring to VRCC members, not message board sign-ups.
Technically speaking, there are 33949 VRCC members, 32982 are listed as active.  There are 5462 message board sign-ups.
However, all of these numbers are highly inaccurate for a number of reasons:

  • Since implementing this message board, many people don't realize they haven't actually joined the VRCC.
You, for instance, don't appear to be listed as a VRCC member.
  • When we changed to this BBS format, many members didn't like the change and chose not to partake.
  • If somone joins the VRCC, there is no requirement that they join the BBS... or even look at it.
  • People can peruse (lurk) without ever signing up on the BBS.
  • There are quite a number of duplicates on the VRCC member list (some people found it easier to re-join rather than figure out how to update).
  • As Willow stated, there are quite a few state or regional boards; most of those folks do not frequent this BBS (unfortunately).
  • As Willow stated, most folks do not deactivate when they move on.  However, each year we send out a mass email announcing InZane with a link to request to be removed; I personally deactivate those making that request.  Bounced emails, I remove from the mailing list, but don't deactivate the member (because some ppl just forget to update).
  • There 5977 VRCC members in other countries, most of whom have never logged into this BBS.

Some of these items would add to our numbers and some would subtract.  But, perhaps you now can see why I thought Willow's guess was extremely low.

I am down for a rhubarb pie with a starting bid of $50.  Hope that buys me that pie, if not, it should be a good opening bid.
