Yep... I officially have an oil leak...

Right front fork...  Embarrassed

Looks like it's time for new seals.  I guess 42K + miles ain't bad for these seals... I've seen some go out faster.

Maybe it's finally time for progressive springs?? And Air shock conversion on the back??  Hmmm...  cooldude

OK, I'm done now... just had to get that out of my system.  You may return to your regularly scheduled programming.

My first '98 had a leak, forgot what the milage was, but the second '98 had not been ridden much when I got it.... 10 K in four years, had fork leak and shifter leak right after I bought it with 28K.

No problems since... up to 61K on this one... 104K on the other.

Might try the old "film" trick . . . find a canister of 35mm camera film. Pull out and cut off about six inches. With the curvature of the film mating with the curvature of the fork tube . . . insert film . . . and with a see-saw motion go around the fork tube/seal the best you can. You might have some dried bug bones stuck in there. If you clear the grit & grime from the seal it may remedy the situation. Yrmv,
