Not trying to make this game of historical pictionary any harder, but have any dams been demo'd or replaced since the 50's(ish)?

Kinda reminds me of the one at the top of Town Lake in Austin, TX.
I'd have to look up the name...
Tom Miller Dam, but it's not, sorry...

I looked up Fontana Dam pics myself, but while there are a load of shots from below, I could not find any good ones looking back inside the top.... like where Mike's pic was taken.

I think you might be right  cooldude , it looks right, and  we have always spent a lot
of time in that area  of W.Va. since my mother's side of the family is from there...

I'll think I'll send that picture to cousin Steve and see what he thinks...

I sent out email after 3fan suggested Bluestone dam... I sent the email out to
Cousin Bill, Cousin Steve and Uncle Bob... Bill said he thought it was Bluestone,
but Bob nailed it:

Mike ,I remember the trip to bluestone dam,I'm sure it was with Sid & Fran. No
one else had car.  Bob.

I believe that the panoramic image I found on the web had been reversed somehow.

Once I "flipped" the image and cropped it for a closer view I am convinced that it is Bluestone Dam:

That's kinda neat that you were able to find out which dam it was.......especially since your pop's in the picture. THAT'S GREAT MIKE. Smiley

Yep.  The top right spill gates are closed in Mike's pic, and open in the Web pic.  Plus the background geography/topography matches.

My dad worked with TVA designing dams right out of WVU engineering school.  I'm going to have to ask him if he can remember specific dams.

I have pictures of he and mom when dating at WVU dressed up like mountaineers for Homecoming weekend (late '40s)  (only time I ever saw him with face hair; he in a coonskin cap and mom in a bonnet).

Aw Shucks Anvil

You didn't have to admit that you were wrong...............

I'd have been happy with you admitting that you were simply mistaken.
