A few months ago I posted that I had started running again after years of laziness.  Well after battling calf pulls I eventually got back at it......then I had a heart infection that kept me off the road for 6 weeks........

Now Ive been back at it for a few weeks and I broke my own land speed record.

To make this Valk related......I found my route on my Valkyrie......I thought it was a tad over 2 miles, and that would make the slow times easier to take.....but no, I drove it in my truck yesterday and its 2 miles on the dot!

Ok, heres the good news.........when I first started I was at 19.5 minutes for 2 miles.......can you say embarassing

I finally broke the 8 min/mile pace today.....2 miles at 15.5 minutes......and I didnt want to die when I stopped........

The best news.....this was the first time in all the runs that I saw someone else running, and it was two nice looking women, and it felt good to not be running like a decrepid old fart anymore...........I could actually say hi  without wheezing.......PRICELESS

Me too also! Not running but throwing the weights around a little bit. I was
starting to get into purty decent shape a couple of years ago and then we had
our Valk vs Monte Carlo incident. Just started lifting again about 3 weeks ago. Not
trying to look like the Incredible Hulk or anything, just trying to look and feel a little
"gooder". Someday, I hope to be in as good a shape as Steamer...wimmen follow
him EVERYWHERE! Grin

I also started running again about a year ago....then one day while I was happily runnung along....I tore my right interior miniscus  Angry

When I had the MRI to confirm the damage, the Doc also discovered that I had a
"significant" amount of arthritus in that knee. Orthopedist told me to knock off the running  tickedoff

"But I like running" I said. To which he replied, "would you like to have a knee replacement sooner or later"?  Embarrassed

I just started again recently after reading how Joe is on his bike pedalling away. Before my injury 2 yrs ago I was jogging 4 miles.

This week I can do one mile then walk another 2

I walk on the road and jog on grass. Its much better for your knees.

What would be great is to find a gore tex running shoe in 12EEE.  The town for some reason uses sprinklers on the field each evening so my feet are pretty damn wet during the run, anyone know who makes a gore tex running shoe for wide feet? cooldude

Congrats Jeff, I'd say that's one heck of an accomplishment. Keep up the good work!

I'm not 8 weeks outof right total knee replacement surgery. I'm out of pain for the most part, but still taking pills for swelling and still in early stages of recovery. It's great to be out of the old pain, but the recovery exercises for mobility and strength are almost as bad.

Stop running and think about bicycles and/or swimming. Guys our age don't take the pounding of running all that well. ..and remeber 10 lbs overweight to the body = 70 lbs to the knees.

I also ran a lot in my 20's & 30's. Never ran a Marathon but ran so many 10k's I can't remember em all. I guess that why my knees are toast today. I still swim, walk, bike and do the elliptical but that just boring as hell  Angry

Riding the Valk is way more fun  Smiley
