My battery went dead a month ago, and I put the battery tender on and it charged up, I think I may have left my Garmin 550 turn on when I parked it. Any way road it for a few weeks, and last weekend. Went out last night and turned the key and the lights were din and no clicking from the starter. No the Gps was not on the bike. Anyway I put the battery tender on it last night and the light was green this am. Lights were britter but not like normal, and now it just clicks from the side by the fuse box. I got out the real charger and it shows the batter still low. I screewed the termails down about a 1/4 of a turn and it's chargering. When I turn the key on and hit the startee button it just clicks loader from what seems like its under the side cover, but it does not engage the starter. Could my starter relay there be bad? 2001 IS. TIA

Sounds like maybe one of your battery cables needs cleaned and reinstalled.
Just for sheet and grins, hook the bike up to your car/truck, (ENGINE OFF ON ASSISTING UNIT)
If it spins and starts, it is battery, if it is still slow to sputter, then you have a corroded cable in the mainstream somewhere. Battery cables or other end of the cable.
I'd lean towards ground cable to look at 1st after all of the above has been tried. On the engine connection, Aluminum goes not make a very good ground. I run my cable to the frame and attached it there, no more alun-ium emgome ground. Actually, the ground cable goes to the frame and then I have a short cable to the old engine mount from my new frame mount..

I agree with RJ.. Remove and clean the connections, especially the one at the engine[ near left foot peg].. Try a good battery and see what happens.. If it runs, then you could check the alternator output[ should be 13.5+ volts at a high idle].. If that doesn't work, let us know..

Battery tenders are made to MANTAIN a charge in the battery. Probably have better luck charging on the battery charger.

Okay, if you are getting a battery, make damn sure you charge it correctly the 1st time or you will be buying another new one in 12 to 18 months. New battery: Charge it 24 hours on a low output charger. Take a reading on the battery. If it isn't like 12.4 at rest, charge it a few more hours BEFORE ya drop it in the bike.

For what it's worth, I've been told that it is best to let the battery sit for about an hour after putting the acid in to allow full sateration of the AGM material before putting on the 24 hour slow charge. Sounds reasonable to me, although I would think that if the acid went in then the saturation would be almost immediate because you don't top off the acid at any point. But what is an additional hour anyway?

Yep it was the battery. Went to Battery plus, got 10% off as a veteran! Could have gotten it cheaper if I ordered it, but I wanted it now!
