I've heard it said the round has similar balistics to a 45-70 government. it'd be a good elk round, had a buddy tell me he shot an elk right through the boiler room with a 45-70 and it only bloodied up about 1/4" around the hole  Shocked

Nice, but check out the ammo price.   http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM907-1.html

Over three bucks a shot.  Ouch. (you can get surplus .50 BMG for about the same)

Check out 300AAC Blackout. It's 30 cal but fits in the modified 5.56mm case so all you need to swap out is the barrel (or the entire upper assembly for a 30 second swap of calibers). Uses the same STANAG magazines and everything. Not cheap, but not as expensive as that silly .458 and you can carry a full load of ammo for about the same weight as 5.56mm

Boxer rebellion, the Holy Child. They all pay their rent.
But none together can testify to the rhythm of a road well bent.
Saddles and zip codes, passports and gates, the Jones' keep.
In August the water is trickling, in April it's furious deep.

Didja hear that Henry rifles has added a .45-70?  Previously the best they had IMHO was their .30-30.  The magnum pistol rounds, OK but kinda marginal for whitetail and not enuff for bigger than that.  However I did take a whitetail years ago with my .44mag - dropped like a stone.
List at $800.  Wish they had it in brass receiver.  Still looking attractive.
