OSS, I will join ya in your ride.  BUT, on my side of the country and about 3 hours after you start.  Snow is melting and they are promising 55 degrees by afternoon.    Grin Grin Grin

Two quick questions from a newbie... How long if any do you let the Valk warm up before driving. And, if the snows just finishing melting don't you worry about left over salt on the road?

Have a great ride. I might go out too. Gonna be 80 here in AZ. A bit chilly but I'll tough it out.

If i use the choke i'll let her idle while i finish gearing up. If i don't use the choke the process is the same. Either way i'm about a mile and a half from the main highway and i go easy til i get on the highway then i rides her like i stoled her. cooldude Unless it's below thirty degrees f I M H O while your gearing up is usually long enough to idle. I'M SURE others will chime in. coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

Yea, that choking thread is about the same as an oil thread. I use the same process 2Soon uses. Depending on how long it takes two old guys like us to gear up, I don't let the choke stay on too long, maybe 30 seconds or so, then the choke goes to the off position. No salt on the roads here to worry about. If you are worried about salt that much, maybe wash the bottom off a bit.

Have a good ride Oss, the Valkyrie is more satisfying to ride than a beemer anyway.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

I press the choke ALL THE WAY DOWN, hit the button and let go

It always starts, then I ride out of the garage and into the driveway so the exhaust dont leak into the house and close the garage door.  If I was not able to see the valve stem in the garage to check the air pressure I ALWAYS do it in the driveway BEFORE The exhaust gets hot enough to burn the skin (dont ask how I know)   I have a compressor from Sportsmans Guide I use if needed but usually all is well

By the time I put my balacava helmet, glasses and gloves on the bike is ready to go and so am I

I turn off the choke before I sit on the bike so I dont have to worry about forgetting to do it

The dang bike is bulletproof  dont overthink it

I got out yesterday for a little while but the wind in these parts was pretty strong.  Gusts up to 55mph.  Ok, when you are going with the wind or against it but when it hits you on the side it gives you a little rattling.

As for salt, I gave it a good washing with hot water when I got back.
