« on: March 06, 2012, 05:44:03 AM »

I have been on a posting holiday for various reasons which are not up for discussion.  A few realities of life hit me square in the face yesterday and helped me decide today was the day Id return to the dialog here.

I rode with the Pensacola PGR to a Memorial for a Air Force Special ops dude that was shot by an Afghan soldier over the koran thing.  Very sad, so unecessary.

It was a perfect day to ride and over 40 bikes showed up.  We stood a flag line just outside the church and could hear every word of the service and just what a special person this guy was.  Now hes gone!  None of know how many days we have left (FIRST REALITY CHECK)

After the service we stopped at a BBQ place to have lunch about 12 or 14 of us.  A woman rider I was sitting near told us the story about how she was hit by an 18wheeler rig that ran a red light and smashed her in her car.  Totally a miracle shes alive.  And, shes the most happy upbeat person you could meet even though her body is scared, shes in pain and her (now ex) husband ran off with the settlement money and left her broke and (then) crippled. (REALITY CHECK #2)

So Im riding home on the same stretch of interstate that I rode back and forth to be with my first wife while she was in the hospital she never got out of and I remember looking into the sky as I was driving  or riding wondering if God was hearing my prayers (REALITY CHECK #3)

Bottom line.  No one knows how many days they have to enjoy life, family, friends etc. And EVERYONE has something to add to whatever conversation they are involved in.  So, I changed my plans.  I was going to start posting again after Daytona to put up details....a few of us that plan on riding up the Cheaha mountain in May even though there is no official event.  So Im back, and anyone that feels like a cheap shot......GO FOR IT!  It will fall on deaf ears, life is too short

Welcome back and to be honest, I use that selective hearing tactic on my wife all the time.  Cheesy

I ride as often as I can for that exact reason! You NEVER and I mean NEVER know if and when you may be hit by the proverbial BUS!! Sitting around and saying," I'll go on the next ride", just doesn't cut it anymore. I believe Mr Lennon once said,"Life is what happens when you're busy making plans!" And if he didn't, he should have. Cool

Life is short.

Then after you realise that, life gets better.

You think of the little things and take time for them as well.

May your ride be with the wind at your back, a friend by your side.

Thanks for honoring the fallen.
