« on: March 08, 2012, 06:24:11 AM »

I have been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Started chemo yesterday at MD Annerson with a 4 hr infusion plus a 2 week regimen of pills that cost $4,700. my copay is $1,600. So far no side effects. I strongy reccomend a colonoscopy if you are over 50. Todays polyps are tomorrows cancer. I have been riding my Valk and it sures feels good to get out in the wind. Please share your stories if you are a cancer patient or survivor. Pat

Pat, I'm not a cancer survivor, but a buddy of mine is.     They diagnosed him with stage 4 and with a bunch of treatments he pulled it off.     He is a vet and the VA Hospital paid it all, except for maybe $10.00.

He told me that if I should get it, make damn sure you don't stop at a potty opportunity, or ya might get a citation for indecent exposure.    LOL.

Think on ya Bro, and thoughts and prayers are headed to ya from Iowa.

I'll second the colonoscopy.

The steel snake will save your life.

If you are too manly to get one I guess you want to take the chance of not seeing your daughter walk down the aisle on your arm on her big day

OR

The joy of seeing your grand-daughter walk down the aisle on her big day.

The procedure is easy.

You ARE a man IF you get it done.

i aint a survivor, but my mom and several of my friends have had it done. my mom lived for about 10 years after sne had about 3 ft of her colan taken out. (she died from conjested heart failure from her diabties. so the colan cancer didnt kill her, i have had several friends had thier colan scraped to remove the poluips and are still around to take my crap about being a bleeding ass. its a simple prosegder, its almost like having a roto rooter shoved up your ass. or you can try the homoio pathic thing and start a regiment of fiber and scour them off your self. but i woud take a look at all venues before i would let any dr say "this is the cure for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

but you will be in my thoughts Pat  and i hope everything comes out ok

Sorry to read this, Pat, please have faith and let them and the Big Guy do their part. My colonoscopy is scheduled in a few days. Just had the 3 year CT scan on my lung, and am still cancer free. Positive attitude is important, and Valkyrie (or any bike) rides are preventative, therapeutic and cathartic. Good luck with your treatments, please keep us posted.

Pat,
I'm not a colon cancer survivor, but I am a cancer survivor and if this will help, FIGHT, DON'T GIVE UP, and ride that Valk like you stole it. I hear MD Andrson is a great place for cancer treatments.

Will put you on my prayer list and move you to close to the top.

Sad news indeed and will be asking for your needs to be met in prayer. I've had the rotor rooter twice and may be about due again. As proceedures go, not too bad. The last time they gave me pills to take ahead of time for the clean out process, much better than drinking that chalkie stuff! Then they give you some drugs, a warm blanket, turn the lights down and before you know it your done. I highly recommend the test, even if you have to kick up a little dust in protest before agreeing to do it to keep the peace cooldude .

Pat sorry to hear that.  Will keep you in my prayers.  I'll be doing my kids cancer shave off on April 21, I know you're just a big kid (like EricfromMD) so I'll pretend it is for you too.  Let me know if there is anything I can do.  And keep the progress reports coming.  I have the paper work started for my second inspection, I slept through the first one.

May will be 5 years since I completed my radiation treatments for Prostate Cancer.  Bought my Valk in June that same year and rode it 876 miles the first day.  I have put over 97,000 miles on that sweet beast now.

So far all is looking up.

Will keep you and Deb in our prayers.  Keep the attitude up.  You know who is in control, and it is not you.  Have faith.

First off so sorry that Cancer, the spawn of the Devil has touched you.  Will be sending postive thoughts and prayers your direction.  It is a fight that postive attitude counts tons.  Never ever give in for a second.  Absolutely do not ever embrace it, such as thinking or saying my cancer.  Reject it  with everything in you.   Be proactive in your treatment, and educate yourself as much as possible.   I have had some experience.  Prostate Cancer in 04, PSA 22.  Had Radical Prostate surgery.  Good checkups since, but 4 yeats later in 08  was diagnosed with Peridontal Mesothelomia.  Thought I had a galdbladder problem.   This is an extremely rare type of Cancer that most cancer centers have never seen and know nothing about.  This is where the education part starts.   If I had of followed the first centers drill, I would be pushing up dazies now.  Got to the right doctor and center for treatment.   It gave me almost 4 years of quality life then it returned.  Just under went the second round of debulking surgery followed by Hyperthermic Chemo, same drill as before, to be followed by 6 mo of chemo in a few weeks.  I am very optomistic  of a good outcome.  I will be 73 next month, am  still fighting hard.  Do not ever underestimate the power of prayer either.  I have a specail church that is full of powerful prayerr warriors that lift me up.   I have better things to do than poor me.  Stay strong and believe.

Pat, I survived prostate cancer, had it removed when I got back from the last IZ at Frisco, threw it away and was on the Valk while I was still on a pee bag.  Doc didn't find out, nobody tell him. Been cancer free since then, so I'm lucky.  Only thing I can offer is to do what you can do, just don't tell the Doc!  The fat lady will keep your spirits up better than any of us can,  Let her do her magic, it's the best I can do for you, except pray, and I will.  Hoser   cooldude

I'm a cancer survivor.  Renel cell carcinoma.....kidney cancer for the uninitiated.  Was diagonsed on April Fools day, 2005.....Gods little joke I guess.   angel  They cut me open and gutted me on June the 6th, 2005.....D-Day.  Oh the irony.   Cheesy

I bought the Valk to celebrate living.  I think it really helped.

My thoughts and prayers sent.   cooldude

Pat, if you end up having surgery, be sure that you only deal with a colo-rectal specialist that does this every day, not a general surgeon.  Lost my Dad in 08 to colon cancer, his first surgery wasn't done the proper way by a general surgeon.

Pat, I am sorry to hear of your cancer. Horrible disease. I am a survivor of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. I found a lump in my neck on September 3 2002, My daughter Sarah had her last chemo treatment on September 5, 2002. She had Hodgkins Lymphoma. I had surgery, chemo and radiation Sarah had surgery and chemo.  It was rough, and certainly a trial, but we tried to stay positive and with the help and love of family and friends we both got through it.
My "counts" stayed good through the whole ordeal. My wive fed me steak/red meat every day. Sarah had some Red Blood cell issues and was getting nuprogen injections for 5 days between treatmenrts. We are both cancer free today and she was blessed with two beautiful children since! Belive in Miracles !
