Well, Im out getting stuff for dinner at the store and I get on the bike to come home.

Key- on

Neutral light- green

Starter Button- Nothing....not a clic, not a clunk not a anything.

So, Im always telling myself......."Self, anything funny during starting and you let off that button fast!"    Well since NOTHING happened Im not thinking hydrolock (and IT WASNT)  So I check the first culprip

Kill Switch-its in run

Neutral light- double check green

This time I pull the clutch in even though I shouldnt have to and she starts right up.  Hmmmmm.  So I turned it off and tried it again with no clutch....NO START, so Im thinking clutch switch.  Then I pulled the clutch in and it still wouldnt start.  Hmmmmmm.  So now that I know its not locked I left the clutch alone and just hit the starter and no start but I jiggled the start button and sure enough she started.  I knew right then it was the contacts inside the starter switch housing.

When I got home and took it apart the little tits in there had a black film and they were jammed down in the carrier.  This switch was only two years old too.

So I pulled the contacts out and stretched the spring a bit, lubed the ears of the contact that goes into the plastic carrier with dilactic grease, and voala the little titties went bouncy bouncy like they are supposed to.....(its always good when they do that isint it)  A little  more dilactic on the contacts after getting them all clean and snap it all back together and its like new.

I think them contacts were jammed from new and that caused a weak contact on the little pads and then the black stuff.

So when you do the button maintenance make sure they go bouncy bouncy....its always a good thing  Cheesy

The kill switch is there for emergency shutdown not daily use.  It is very impoortant to have it.

Chris, while you're at it, why don't you install the bypass relay to take the major amp load off that start switch?

The procedure is about halfway down; Start Switch Safeguard.

That's good. Where do you think the "black stuff" you referred to came from?  It's usually caused by arcing from high current.
