Hi!

About 1.5 years ago, I have completely rebuilt the clutch system on one of my old school Suzuki projects. I have completely rebuilt the master and slave cylinders, installed new metal and fiber plates along with new clutch springs, and finished off by using a ss clutch line.

In other words, everything is new or rebuilt.

While on its center stand, I can turn the rear wheel in neutral but not in gear (with the clutch lever depressed). I have checked the system to make sure it was bled properly, and even installed another master cylinder along with another ss clutch line that I had.

I am now convinced that the clutch plates are stuck together from sitting too long. Apparently this is common with certain new motorcycles that sat on the lot for a long time before being sold.

In a few minutes, I will pull the clutch apart to see if this is the problem. If it is, I'm not sure what to do to prevent the plates from sticking together again when I reassemble it LOL! These have been sitting in brand new oil. Normally the fiber plates are soaked in new oil for at least 24 hours before installing (which I have done). If I clean them, what solvent should I use ... and of course I guess that I will need to soak them again for 24 hours before re-assembling.

Any suggestions, insight, etc. would be appreciated.

TIA!  Smiley

When I depressed the clutch lever, the pressure plate would move out approximately 1/4 inch, but the interior fiber and metal plates stayed "oil glued" together as one unit.

I will therefore soak them for 5 to 10 minutes in paint thinner before placing them in a new oil bath for the next 24 hours.

Hopefully my "stuck clutch" problem will have been solved.  Undecided

I've had that happen in the past but I was always able to break them free by bumping against engine compression or by dropping it into gear with the brake held firmly on.

I don't have that option because the carbs are presently off the bike waiting to be done, and I need to clean up the electrics.
I'm hoping that in a few days, I will be able to turn the rear wheel when the bike is in gear. If not, I'll wait until it is all assembled and running to try "dropping it into gear with the brake held firmly on".
