Found a 99 standard with 4,700 miles on it. I didn't have time to ride it. But it idles and revs very nicely, so I assume the carbs are clean. Tires look good and no dry rot. It's painted a non Honda color not fancy, just 1 color. I'm going to go back and ride it after work.
Couple of questions........
The metal and fenders all look straight, how can I tell if it were repainted if it went down?
How can I confirm that's the true mileage? This is the second owner, and I should be able to see the mileage statement from the last time it sold on the pink slip. But then, that could have been fudged too.
There were no leaks to be seen. But with so few miles over the years, where should I be looking for dry rot and dried out seals, and such?
What else should I be looking at?
Thanks.

Look at hidden parts of the frame, up under the seat and stuff... look up in there at the swingarm where it pivots... it would be hard to make that stuff look like it had 4k on it, if it really had 104k...

If it's been stored inside it should be evident. No rust rounded ofs bolts, grime or oil etc. 4 and 104k would be very easy to determine. The tires most like would be OEM Too.

Having been wrecked is different from going down and if it looks good all should be Ok.
You can look inside the fenders for any bodywork and a magnet on the tank will show Bondo.
If it's straight it should be all right.
I don't believe anyone would mess with the speedometer, it's just not worth it. It may still have the Elite tires at that mileage.
The hand grips will show how much it's been rode. And the foot pegs also.

the more mileage the more hazy the chrome on the timing cover from rock/sand wear. i've had to replace mine twice due to the chrome wearing out and peeling.

+1 on dull chrome on leading edges. If it has dull chrome then theres probably a hidden 100,000 miles. My bike has 28K on the clock and I would defy any shopper to find a reason that theres more than that if I was trying to lie, so that being said......parts can be replaced with new, things can be cleaned very well, so its possible but very unlikely that you can still be fooled. If it has original tires, you'll need new ones. The old cord comes apart and the tire fails.

For the same reason someone would paint a Valk with only 12k miles. It may have been down.

I was asking about that. The current owner says he bought it from his BIL and that the BIL didn't like black, so he had it repainted before he ever picked it up. Don't need a 2nd bike. If I were to pick this one up, I'd move a lot of goodies from my current dragon over, and sell the current bike. Gonna sleep on it. If I pass on it, I'll post the info here if someone else is interested.

Actually I was really impressed with how nice the factory chrome looked. If I decide I'd like to buy it, I'll give it a real good going over.
