We are firming up the plans for Pat's life celebration on Saturday, March 24 as follows:

I think Charlie (Fstop) is going to put together a ride in the morning.

The celebration will be held at the Big Red Bunkhouse on Lucky Star Ranch in Leander, Texas.  Physical address is 318 County Road 290 (off hwy 2243).

It's a lovely outdoor facility with a covered cabana, swimming pool, hot tub, tennis courts, fire pit, bar-b-que grills, lots of room to move around and of course, the Big Red Bunkhouse!  The bunkhouse is very well done in cowboy chic, it has a full kitchen, two full baths and will sleep 12: one room has a king size bed, the loft has three bunks (sleeps 6) and the guest room has two single beds and one double bed.  First come, first serve, total cost for the place is $250.00/night or 21.00/person.  Can't beat that!  And by renting the bunkhouse, it allows us access to the entire grounds for the entire night.  Plenty of paved parking for motorcycles, the front pasture will be used for cars.

The celebration for Pat will begin about 4:00 and run til about 6:00ish.  My minister will be on hand to say a few works and I anticipate it to be more of a time of story telling of our experiences we shared with Pat.

Light finger foods (fruit, veggies, cheese and crackers) will be served with coffee and tea and water.  BYOB your adult beverages, we will provide coolers, bring any food you care to, chairs would be helpful, great memories to share, a light heart and a good joke is what I think Pat would like.  It will be outdoors, so dress is very casual; plan to stay as long as you like and leave when ever you're ready.  We will have access to grills and the grocery store is less than 5 minutes away for those staying longer and/or over night.  We can make this celebration what ever we want it to be, in honor of our dear friend and the love of my life, Laser Pat.

There are 6 major hotels in the Cedar Park area, about 10 minutes away from the Big Red Bunkhouse,  including:
Holiday Inn Express (512) 259-8200
Comfort Inn (512) 259-1810
Best Western (512) 259-7300
La Qunita Inn (512) 528-9300
Motel 6 (512) 260-3233
Candlewood Suites (512) 968-4828

Looking forward to this fine celebration with all our friends!

TxDeb

I should have posted this earlier, but everything is still in the planning stages.  Details will emerge as we are able to come up with actual details.

So...

I have tentatively plotted a route which will be a 50-55 mile loop starting at 1:00PM from the Big Red Bunkhouse in Leander.  Mark Stovall and I agree that this start time should be good for the folks riding in that morning.  With possibly one rest stop, we should be back in Leander by 2:30 - 3:00.  That should give folks plenty of time to freshen up for the Service at 4:00.

I will be doing a recon run of the route ASAP and will post any changes as they come up.

So...

Please plan on a 1:00PM leave from Leander.  Also, please feel free to contact me by personal message through the VRCC Board or call 512- Four 2 Two - 8 Six 3 Six

Thanks,

Charlie

My recommendation is to take the direct route to Leander.  This one is not about leisure.  This has another purpose. We can enjoy the tribute ride at 1p.  Just my $0.02. L

I don't have many of my own plans set, but I generally plan on a Saturday morning departure, and Sunday return.  We'll get a group going out of Houston, I'm sure.  Times and meetup locations to be determined.  Let's give folks some time to get their personal plans set, and then we'll start talking specifics.

My hope is to head south Friday afternoon and take a route I've never taken on a motorcycle.  I-35...

Maybe a scenic return on Sunday.

This is a copy of the obituary that will appear in the Austin American Statesman on Saturday

Patrick (Pat) Joseph Jamail

December 17, 1951-March 11, 2012

Our beloved brother and friend, Pat Jamail , passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012. A native of
Houston, Pat was a well-respected home builder and remodeler, and an active member of the Austin
Homebuilders Association.

Pat was an adventurous soul and amongst his hobbies were playing and listening to live music and
traveling cross country on his Honda Valkyrie motorcycle with his favorite gal Tx Deb.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George E. and Constance Fay Jamail and his beloved
Great Dane Riley. He is survived by his loving family; Ronald and Sydney Jamail, Mark Jamail, Kimberley
Jamail-Ewing, Donald Ewing, Stacey Jamail-Robinson, Carl Robinson, Emile and Lori Jamail, Michael
Jamail and Christopher Van Winkle, great niece Genevieve Jamail, great nephew George E. Jamail and
partner, friend and love Debbie Adams. He had many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be
missed by all.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held Saturday, March 24th at the Lucky Star Ranch in Leander, 318
County Road 290 off HWY 2243. The service will be from 4 until 6. Please plan to come early and stay
late and bring your stories of Pat to share.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

I've thought about this trip to Pat's memorial for a while.  I think that a ride to honor one of our fellow riders should be a "riders" ride versus a direct run down the superslab.  I guess I don't see how making a direct route trip increases the significance or importance of my attendance at the official memorial ride.  In a cage - yup, get there with as little time spent as possible.  On my Valk - enjoy the ride and celebrate the life of our friend Pat by doing what he loved to do.  IMHO.

So, if anyone wants to tag along with me, I'm going down Saturday and coming back Saturday nite.  Meet me at the McDonalds in Alvarado at 67 and I-35W (NE corner) at 8:00-8:30am, gassed up and ready to go at 8:30am for a trip along Hwy 67, 220, 281 and 183 to Leander.  We should arrive by noon if not a bit earlier.

Count me in.  But I will have to ride back that night also.  I've got a bunch to do on Sunday.  I will be on and off the site all week.  My dispatcher never lets us know about runs till the last minute.  I have already informed him of Saturday.

I will be there Saturday for sure to help celebrate Pat's life.
I am a little confused on the bunkhouse.  It is booked for just Saturday afternoon evening, correct?
I ask because it looks to be a nice weekend and I am considering a hill country bluebonnet path on the way to Austin, that Friday.

Thanks

An update tonight from TexasDeb

A celebration of the life of Pat Jamail is planned for Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Lucky Star Ranch in Leander, Texas; located at 318 County Road 290 off Hwy 2243.

Friends, family and those who knew him through the building business, through music and through motorcycles will gather to share memories of a true treasure.  Pat never knew a stranger and was always there to lend a helping hand and greet you with a warm smile.

We hope you can join us for this uplifting and casual event from 4:00-6:00.  Come early, dress comfortably as it is outdoors, bring a chair and a musical instrument if you care to and plan to stay late as we remember all the good times we’ve shared together with Pat all evening long.

Looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces at this joyous occasion on the 24th.

In love and light,
Debbie Adams

Pat's ride update...

After making a test run,  the ride should take a little more than one hour, so I'm not planning any stops.  The route mimics a ride that Pat and Deb took me on a while back that runs through the Balcones Canyon Lands National Wildlife refuge.  There's some beautiful views and nice windy roads.  We will be taking some left hand turns, but that direction gets the best views.  Also, the weather is predicted to be just about perfect!  (Pat must have had a talk with the "Big Guy".)

Kickstands up at 1:00PM.  We'll get a group photo back at the Bunkhouse.

Ride safe everyone!

Here is a link to Pat's Ride route.  I will have some hard copies on the day.  FYI, we'll be going counter clockwise, so we will have some lefthand turns -- but the views are stunning!

Also, depending on how many folks we have, we may need extra group leaders.  Mark (Rocketman) Stovall has already put his hat in the ring for this task.

Ride safe y'all!

Got to the house at 1020 pm.  Wish I could have met Pat. Cry  But I will in the future.  Thanks to all the VRCC members for making me feel at home.  It is rare to find a bunch of people who care about other members and actually go out of their way to introduce themselves.  I feel honored to be part of the VRCC.  I enjoyed meeting each and every one of you.  Now if I can just remember everyone in the future without embarrasing myself. crazy2  Prayers to TxDeb and family to start the healing process after this terrible loss.  Also prayers for everyone to return to their homes safely.  I look forward to riding with everyone again in the near future.
