I discovered my Valk has been wired with a harness.  One of the old 6 pin square connectors...

I tested it with a meter and seems to be passing through current.

I understand the hoppy coverter is powered so that the lights are running from the battery....and not the bikes system...(that I don't really understand. as passive converters exist)....

I just want to rig up some brake lights to a cargo carrier I"m going to be using.  What is the potential harm of using the existing harness??

Thanks for the help.

If you bought the bike used, I'd be surprised if it wasn't a trailer light couping.

Where is this 6 pin located.   Under the seat maybe?

How much cord ya got on it?   Enough to reach the rear of the bike.

If all else fails, get a test light,  OH YES, have a good ground on your test light.

Draw a BIG picture of your connector on a piece of paper.    Start the bike.
Stick you test light in a hole until you find a solid burn of the bulb, make it as running light on your paper.

Turn on the left turn signal. stick the test light in until you get a flash, on / off.
Mark as LT on your paper.

Turn on the right turn signal.  Stick the test light in the remaining ones till you get a turn signal flash.  Mark as RT on your paper.

Tape the front brake lever, test till ya find a solid light, mark as Brake on your paper.

Now you got to figure out which one of the 2 left is the ground.

Grab a piece of copper wire, put the alligator clip on it, stick it in the hole, still have the other end of your test light in the brake hole.   Light, NO, try the remaining hole, Light, Yes, mark the hole on your paper as GRD.    The other hole more than likely isn't being used.   They chose a 6 holer cause they couldn't find a 5 holer for less than $50.00.

I ran into that same situation.

Now, make a copy of your plug, transfer the bulb information to the new one.   STAPLE it on you garage wall.    When ya have a problem if you do, look at your plug, then find the wire and that should be the one you trace to the problem.

Ok, I guess I left out some info......

It is wired.....

the "plug" is behind the license plate.  I tested it with a meter.....One is hot all the time, (brown i think)...others vary on the output when blinker/brake is applied.  The blue wire is not connected to anything, and the white wire is being used to hold it to the license plate bracket.....

My main question is it ok to use something like this without a powered converter??  Any harm in not using a converter??  It will be used minimally

Thanks...

Go with what ya got.    You only need a converter when the towed vehicle DOES NOT have seperate turn signals.
