There is talk here in England that the truck drivers that deliver gas and diesel will go on strike for one day next week.
Our government issued a statement advising everyone to keep their gas tanks full. It's caused mayhem at our gas stations, people queing out onto the road. Some stations selling out and closing until the next delivery.
It's been estimated that the sales of gas and diesel are seven times what they normally are.I'm not sure of the figures but I think our government adds about 70% tax on fuel. Whatever it is,our government has just gained itself a healthy cash boost.
Fuel here costs the equivilent of 9$ per us gallon.Just so it's Valk related it will cost me around 35$ to fill mine up from reserve.

The dumb masses here do the same thing here if there's a sniff of a gas shortage.

I'll bet there's plonkers with 5 year old gas in their garages from the last time. Idiots.

Help me understand how the fact that the truck drivers going on strike is an indication of poor government?? I'm not real familiar with British government so I don't see the relationship. Do the truckers work for the government?

As to our government, most of our fuel taxes, at least at the state level, are on a cents per gallon basis.  So when the price of fuel goes up, the government does not get any more money.  The fuel tax, which on the state level provides for road and bridge maintenance and construction, hasn't been raised in decades, even though the cost of fuel which has a huge impact on the cost of construction (equipment fuel and bituminous asphalt mainly).  So the coffers are hurting and the bridges and roads are crumbling.

The original post and I quote "Our government issued a statement advising everyone to keep their gas tanks full. It's caused mayhem at our gas stations, people queing out onto the road. Some stations selling out and closing until the next delivery."

I think causing the dumb masses to panic buy shows poor government.

The fuel tanker drivers are unionised and enter working condition and pay discussions with the government.

I guess I don't see a government warning its citizens that they might want to be prepared as irresponsible.  Citizens acting poorly reflects on those particular citizens.

I suppose the weatherman warning of a snow storm causing panic buying of bread, milk, and toilet paper is inappropriate too.  Roll Eyes

OK

One is a fact - tanker drivers going on strike

The other is supposition.
