Livin' the Valk, er, F6B life in Central Florida.

Silver Springs, Florida

« on: April 01, 2012, 06:22:00 PM »

Just finished adding the OEM Tourer bags to the '99 Standard. Also added a glasspack/truckstack exhaust to replace the too loud Cobras. Anyways, I bought this '99 Standard 3 years ago for $2000 in good mechanical condition but a bit neglected & under-appreciated.

46,000 miles and ran very well but totally filthy & full of "redneck engineering".
Cleaned it, de-rednecked it, & gave it a thorough going over with intentions of flipping it for a nice little profit.
Well, I had no takers on the flipping deal & after the clean up I starting riding it a bit to take a few miles off my '97 which was fast approaching 100K miles. After a bit I started appreciating how well it ran & how nice it was to have a 3rd bike in the stable. Since we didn't need the money coolsmiley you know what happened. We grew attached to it.  Cool
Bought OEM w/s hardware and a new "glass" which I put on Kim's Valk & put the hand me down w/s on the '99.

Added the National Cycle hardbags & eventually put the hand me down seat from Kim's Valk when I scored a screaming deal on an Ultimate Low Rider for Kim's '98.
Big improvement from the hideous gray inserted seat that was on it.

After piling a few more miles on our poor man's Tourer I wanted to take it all the way to full Tourer status.
Mission accomplished  cooldude

Traded the NC hardbags to Bert for this glasspack/truckstack exhaust which IMHO sounds WAAAAYYYY better than the Cobras.  cooldude cooldude

Scored some black I/S bags from E-bay. They had some minor road rash & were missing some hardware but a guy down the street turned out to be an excellent painter.  Wink

Now I'm mostly satisfied and only need to add a car horn & some running lights to make it damn near perfect. No Valk is every really finished.  Grin

Kim & I are both happy Valkers today!

$150 obo. They're not perfect & they have baffles of unknown origin in them. Completely different sound from Kim's Valk with the Cobra baffles.
Let me know if you're interested & I'll hold 'em till whenever.

BTW, I'm open to trades for other Valk parts.  cooldude

Having options is a great thing John!
I rode the Black 'n Silver to work today {44 miles one way} & I can't believe how much more enjoyable the ride is with quiet{er} pipes. Silk baby. Sooooo nice having the Tourer bags too!

Gonna get Kim on the '99 for a ride & see how she likes the glasspacks. As of now she still likes her Cobras.  Shocked

Yes, I think the consensus is that the Tourer is the best all around model, between the std, Tourer, and interstate.  It looks great!

Great looking bike there TT / Eddie   cooldude cooldude

I've always liked the '99 Black/Silver combo. Back in '99 when they came out, I tried to buy a new one. The Honda dealer salesman informed me that I didn't qualify for financing so, i had to go home with my head hung low. Fast forward 10 years, found a nice used Standard on craigslist for a good (affordable) price and made it into a Tourer-wannabe.

I like the "sleeper" look it has.  Great colors, cool pipes.  Reminds me of a nice resto-mod of a classic!
