I had some excess Valkyrie parts that I had no immediate need for and a buddy of mine wanted them for his just purchased 99 Tourer. He offered to trade me this for an exhaust system and a Corbin seat.

I really wasn't wanting to move the parts right now but the 1973 XL 175 is a one owner with less than 2300 miles and he wanted it gone, so the deal was struck.

The only thing missing that I can see is the left mirror and everything else is original except for the exhaust which is a NOS item he put on a couple of years ago because the muffler had a rust hole in the bottom.

Still have to get it running. I heard it run a few years ago, although it wasn't quite right. I guess I'll get to test my mechanical abilities to see if I can get it to run like a 2300 mile bike should.

Anybody know why the two covers on either side of the crankcase are a different color/shade than the block, cylinder and head?

My guess is that the covers must be cast steel.
