rode about 40 miles to a great little breakfast place this morning. a bit crisp but other than that a good ride over.. no cops..no deer.. came out to saddle up and noticed the wind pickin up.. it was a tail wind and it was welcomed.. that is until i reached the blinking light and headed north.. OMG  IT HAD TO HAVE BEEN BLOWIN 50.. winds like that on the valk werent all that bad... at least they werent as bad as on a Vstrom a medium weight bike with a high profile.. I swear i could feel it sliding sideways across the asphalt.. fortunately there was only about 12 miles of that crap.. butt that was enough..

Must be me, but I have driven lately in 30 mph sustained winds with gusts pushing 40.  Not bad if the wind is pushing you, but a good gust of cross wind makes me slow my I/S down to around 50 mph instead of going 62 mph and jerks my head sideways all the time.  I would hate to see 50 mph crosswinds, not for me.  Me being 275lbs. and the Valk with gas 800lbs., you would think I could handle it, but leaning the bike into the cross wind makes me a little nervous.

Don't lean the bike. Try leaning your body off the bike into the prevailing wind.

Not too much HOWEVER you do have to be careful if the wind drops you can find what was supporting your body has gone  Grin

As much as I hate to say it, I can vouch for Clark's (Superman, Potato head, etc) comment. I, too, have a Vstrom. In name it's an 'adventure tourer' and, as such, sits very high with a 33 inch seat height and with a relatively high center of gravity.  It does NOT like crosswinds!

The Valk was great in winds, The 'Strom is not. It's almost as bad as an ST1100 I once owned.

Sorry Tom. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering your handle. Grin

I usually kinda like crosswinds unless they're getting under my tank bag and making me lay on it. I don't like them when they're blowing from the left and I'm meeting semis on narrow fast highways.
