I spent the weekend in vegas at the drag strip for the NHRA event and one class was the nitro harleys. There is nothing harley about them other then the vtwin design of the engine but were very cool to watch. 175ci  800horse power. The fastest run I saw was 230mph. low 6's et. Thes guys that run these I think are very talented riders and just a bit on the crazy side.  crazy2 If you ever get a chance go watch them.

the one time i went to the nitro finals in Tx. was the first time i ever saw a nitro V-Twin... we how bad can it be right? i have heard all the harleys without the exhaust on the roads,, so i stand behind the very first one i ever heard fire up about 10 feet back... the owner asked me if i was sure i wanted to stand there and i asked him if i should get closer to get the full effect,,,he just laffed and turned around an put the starter on the side of the crank and hit the button,,,SON OF A BITCYCH!!!!! it blew my ball cap off,, busted what was left of my ear drums and almost knocked me to the ground,,,,dam that was one fine sounding machine!!! that was the best week end i ever had at a drag strip,,,i bet that guy is still laffing at me!! took almost a week to get my eyes to stop wattering,,,

They don't look anything like harleys.I wonder what would happen if someone were to put that kind of money and engineering into a valkyrie

I don't know of any motor sport, other than motocross, where you can pretty much
buy a competitive vehicle right off the show room floor...

-Mike "but there might be some..."

AMA road racing is pretty close...depending on the class.
