I learned something today yesterday when I returned from work I realized I had to mow the lawn, parts of it were well over 6 inches mostly the onion grass that grows wild. Now at the end of the year I ran the mower dry, it had new carb kit installed that spring Last night I put in gas (just gas no oil) I had bought for the snowblower 3 months ago *yeah it only snowed once* and the mower altho I pulled that cord till my hands were numb would not even hiccup and yes I primed it I put in the new stabil that supposed to clean carbs too 2 oz to maybe a bit under a qt of gas and swished it a good 10 minutes tipping mower on its side several times ok maybe throwing is a better word the lawn mower shop opens at 730 am So I am about to load the mower when, being Oss, and just totally stubborn, I decided what the heck hit prime once and pull the cord. IT caught and died. WOOHOO Sign of life, asked the wife if she heard it and she grumbled from the bed yes so I said I am mowin the lawn while the mower is in the mood and just finished. I was wearing my Gathering O the Fools Cap so now its both Valk and GOTF related All is well in Ossville, but now I am sneezing but its a good sneezing as its spring !!! May all your lawn mower adventures be at least as pleasant some lawn mowing shorts for your morning

I like that lady named Molly -- good stuff.
I had same trouble just last week when I tipped my mower on it's side to change the oil, cleaned deck, and sharpened blade. Went 3 days later to crank my easy starting engine and wouldn't turn over after several dozen hard pulls and it normally starts on 2 or 3 pulls no problems. NO idea what happened but finally after 15-20 pulls, it coughed and sputtered and finally started. Last year also had at end of season issues with same old, but reliable, toro mower after I put some stabil in the tank (about 1 ounce or so). I started mower to run stabil thru the lines and mower would run for like 10-15 seconds fine and then stop and it did this for like 5 minutes of mowing, finally gave up and put it away for the winter. In the spring this year, whatever was in the gas line was gone and ran fine again - very odd. Can't complain though since got the mower for free and was made late 80's, early 90's and still running.
Now, all my neighbors in our easy mowing 1/4 acre city lots all have riding mowers and they are not even that old (under 60). One younger couple around 30 even are so lazy across the street they don't mow at all and never have and they hire the local mower guy and his rider to mow and trim their yard when it gets knee high - lazy people. Even a few residents luckily on the other side of our small town got a city ordinance to pay a cleanup crew to clean up their yard crap since grass hasn't been mowed in years and junk laying all over right next to our school.

HAHA We have rocks. A lady moved here from Ohio. She wondered why she brought her mower. She also wondered what she should do with it. I voulinteered to take it and the deal was done. I took it to an industrial complex and mowed the lawn for clippings for my garden. I've been working this dirt for 3 years to get enough innit so something would grow. itrs a Troy Built from Lowes and had been in storage for a year. Fresh gas and an oil change (Honda syn 20/50 Valk oil) three pulls and I was mowin grass. I miss mowin grass. Not taking offers though.

I've got a 65 Wheel Horse 855 but I use a pusher to mow the lawn....Got the 855 from my dad a few years ago, one of these days I'll make it look like new again. The old lawn tractors are cool.

Absolutely hate mowing, don't mind the activity, just hate the result. Allergies will do that to ya. Was thinking about hiring the neighbor lady to do it, she mows hers in a bikini but afraid that would result in another physical reaction that would get me in trouble with the wife. So, I guess I'll just keep scratching where it itches, sneezing, coughing and snoring from the swelled up sinuses (and watching the neighbor mow her lawn from a distance). Life has it's challenges, mowing is one of them (and not getting caught watching the neighbor).

u do know that troy-bilt's are just re-badged over priced MTD/yard-man movers now and have been since '01, when mtd bought out troy-bilt. same goes for the rest of any troy-bilt equipment. In 1975 MTD purchased the Yard-Man name from Montgomery Ward. In 1981 the Cub Cadet product line was acquired from International Harvester, and the White Outdoor Products Company was acquired from the old White Motor Company. In 1985 the company's Martin, Tennessee plant began operation, and Arnold Corporation was acquired. In 1986 Aircap Industries in Tupelo, Mississippi was acquired. In 2000, a Hungarian manufacturing facility was opened with expanded capacity for electrical products. MTD acquired Ryobi, giving them the capacity to produce 1.5 million engines and related hand-held products. In 2001 MTD acquired Garden Way including the Troy-Bilt and Bolens brands. In 2006, MTD began building lawn equipment under the Massey Ferguson brand for sale in Europe.[2] In 2007, MTD began building the low-end lawn and garden tractors for its otherwise competitor, Toro. In 2008, MTD began having a third-party company (located in China) manufacture a new line of engines for the Craftsman 2008 line of snowthrowers. They are no longer building them with Tecumseh engines. In 2009 MTD acquired the Remington brand from Desa International.

My mower starts with one pull every time. One pull of the checkbook, pull it out and write a check to the little Italian guy that's done it for over 20 yrs., like clockwork, every Friday. One problem I've ever had with him....he starts about 7:00am which really bugs my wife. She doesn't say much though except to tell me he's more reliable than I am. I tell her that's fine with me, at least I'm not sneezing all day following that chore.

I bought my Honda HR-214 back in...wait for it...1989( $349.)!! Looks like crap now, needs new wheels, only one gear left in the gear box (fast thankfully) STILL starts on one pull. Got to love it..32 years old! What does overwintering mean???

Gotcha all beat. Last year, Katie's dad gave her his "old" Cub Cadet 1772. It's a 1989 model 17hp 3cyl diesel garden tractor with a 60" deck and cat 0 3 point hitch. Hydrostatic drive, power steering. Starts every time with 2 hits of the glow plugs.
I was mowing the yard 3 weeks ago and got off to move some sticks when the mower started making a banging noise, then started jumping around. I killed it as quickly as I could, but the damage had been done. The front rag joint on the driveshaft went, and the driveshaft took out 3 hydraulic lines, the steering column cover and the end of the shaft itself (irregular wear).
Can't pull hydrostatic trans, ATV didn't have enough weight to lift the rear wheels of the tractor off the ground, so I had to use the winch on the truck to pick it up and tow it back to the driveway, then use plywood on the gravel to use the floor jack to roll it into the garage. Her dad brought over a cherry picker to help get the deck off. Ordered the parts, welded up the driveshaft end, got it all back together and was cutting grass the next week. Figure this things got another 20+ years left in it.

had a Honda and hated it, bogged down had to cut high then go to regular height the grass would clump up and have to mow the lawn 2 times. It was Steamer got me to thinking about a commercial mower. So I looked for something in between the 36 cut commercial and the regular 21. Couldn't find anything till I came across the Sears wide cut. But new they wanted to much so I was looking on craig list and found a John Deere 36 used steel 1/4 inch thick 14 hp in need of repair. It was more than I needed but I picked it up for 300.00. So cleaned it up new blades greased it cleaned the carb a coat of paint and I was off. This thing could take down the fence and you would never know but it was a bit of overkill. So back to Craigs list and I found a almost new Sears 33 inch for 400.00. I absolutely love cutting the lawn again takes me all of 20 minutes no muss no fuss point and cut. The Deer had power turning the Sears you have to turn it yourself but its easier than a 21, I just love it starts first pull and just goes. Sold the Deere to my friend who cuts lawns for 900.00 he was so happy I said 800.00 but he offered more, I just wanted the money I put into the thing and a few bucks extra. Went into a field with the Deere and the grass was about 15 inches high and with the new gator blades it didn't even slow down at all. The Sears is no commercial mower but that makes it a bit lighter and easy to manage. Kinda like handling the valkyrie. My friend is happy with the Deere, and all his friends ask where he got it and if there are any more. Sold the Honda that I bought for 500.00 to the junk guy to cut his lawn for 50.00 and I was happy to be rid of it. In my looking for used equipment I found a 42 inch Kawasaki hedge trimmer for 150.00 they build one good trimmer.

Oss,
5 minutes and 34 seconds of my life had been wasted watching some ding-dong mow her yard in a dress….. why? Why did you post that? Thank god I was sitting at work when I clicked on it…..
Anyway, I’ve got a toro, that thing is over 25 years old, still starts on less then three pulls, most often one!! I remember when my father bought it, I talked him in to spending the money to buy a good lawn mower instead of buying a new MTD mower every two or three years, then throwing it away ‘cause they’re junk. We’ve gotten our money out of that thing and it’s still running great!!
(now we’re going to have a bunch of MTD fans posting)
