We are two couples spending the 2nd week of June in Silverthorne CO. Would anyone like to share ideas or experiences? We expect to do a road trip from there every day. So much to see. So little time. We did find a great house to rent. Can never get enough info.

Many great roads to ride from that location.  You can head north to Steamboat.  Or Winter Park area into Rocky Mt. Ntl Park.

West to Glenwood Springs and Aspen.  Or south to Leadville.

Or many other options, all beautiful and exciting.

I'll be happy to give you folks some benefits of my 30+ years of living on the Western Slope of the great state of Colorado.

I've been cruising the Colorado State Highways forever and you'll have a blast (as long as you stay off of Interstate 70 and also avoid Denver like the plague).

I'll give you at least five rides and destinations that will amaze you and challenge you as the elevation rises and the vistas open up.

Suggestion #1: Bring some light, layered clothing as it will still be cool in the high country; a good pair of lined gloves will keep your hands warm on the chilly mornings as you exit Silverthorne for your rides.

Will get back with you later as time permits.

+1

Snow is possible in the higher elevations as late as July, however short afternoon rain showers are more likely.

Stay hydrated, wear sun block and give yourself some time to acclimatize to the thinner air.

Staying in Silverthorne it will be almost impossible to avoid I-70, It is the quickest way to or from the many  jump off points to some of the great rides in the high country.

Rocky Mountain National Park
Independence Pass (between Leadville and Aspen)
Black Canyon of the Gunnison
Highway 133 between Hotchkiss and Carbondale then highway 82 into Glenwood Springs.

Just a few suggestions

Any Questions feel free to contact me

A couple of years ago, my cousin, his son and me did a biking/camping trip.  We chose a spot between Frisco and Dillon to set up a central camp.  Looks like you are in the same general area- good choice!  Each day we went a different direction and it was awesome!  cooldude Loveland pass will be close and is well worth the ride.  Smiley You can make the round trip and go through the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70- what an experience.   cooldude #1 on Independence Pass, Aspen, Black Canyon of the Gunnison.  It is hard to go wrong in this part of the world.  There is a very well put together web site that is as good as I have ever seen-  www.motorcyclecolorado.com.  We went in early June and the weather was perfect- all the locals said that was very unusual to be so warm in those elevations.  The day after we left, there was 2" of snow in the campground!  Angry Our timing was good! Remember to bring your camera!!!!!!!!!

One of the finest pics I ever took!  Near Silverthorne, CO at our camp.
Did I mention, bring your camera!  Grin Enjoy, you have a fine time ahead of you!  Smiley
