My 02 Standard had a Memphis Shades on it when I got it, now I've got a tourer windscreen. It's starting to get those pesky scratches in it from roadgrime and crap that is floating around in the air. I'm pretty careful about cleaning it so I'm relatively sure I'm not the cause. Regardless, was wondering if anyone has tried to polish one and what the results were.
I've been seeing these headlight kits that do one heck of a job, think it's worth a try. If it doesn't work or makes it worse, I guess I'll be buying a new piece of plexiglass. What do ya think?

Are they scratches or is the coating starting to give up the ghost?

I believe the OEM screens have a coating on them the cannot be buffed. Is your Tourer screen Hondaline?

Giving up the ghost, or OEM coating, they can be buffed out just as stated.

I've been thinking the same thing as my MS shield is quite scratched also. Keep us informed if you do this and the results please. (pictures would be nice too)

I also used Plexis on my OEM windshield. I think it came out really well. Much clearer, still has some scratches but definitely a huge improvement. Used a drill buffer pad, 3 times over it and then waxed it real well.

I've used liquid polishing compound on mine (Memphis Shades) to take out scratched. I do it by hand as I don't have a buffer, but a low speed buffer works extremely well.

i figure my windshield is 13 years old already, if i just replace it, it should last another 13 years. considering the amount of money i've spent on other things for the bike, what's a couple hundred for a new windshield??

I believe the OEM screens have a coating on them the cannot be buffed. Is your Tourer screen Hondaline?
The coating (on both sides) can be removed with brake fluid and a rag. The toe of a pair of panty hose (yours or your wife's, or your girlfriend's-doesn't matter) is best. Then clean with soap and water, dry completely, and polish as mentioned. Take the winshield apart and remove it from your bike first. Have done three and they come out well.

Now, that's what I needed to see. Now I just gotta get some pantyhose somewhere. Hmm, gonna have to think about that one. Yeah, it's been a while.

If you start with a new windshield and never use anything on it but Lemon Pledge, it will remain as new, forever. I learned this over twenty years ago and have never had to replace a windshield because of scratches, fog, or any other reason. Pledge makes for easy cleaning, especially bug removal. As the old saying goes, try it, you'll like it!
