It might be key to note here that he owns several musclecars with cherry bombs and glasspacks.

He kinda hit the nail on the head but went a little far. A rider has the right to dress like he wants, get tats, etc, wear black, wear or not wear a helmet, BUT he doesn't have the right to infringe on other people's rights by running STRAIGHT pipes!

As far as cherry bombs vs a straight pipe Harley, there's no comparison. I ran cherry bombs on my  cars, nice mellow louder than normal sound (if you kept them packed.)

There is presently an AMA approved sound level test that's fair. Nice aftermarket pipes like my son''s  Vikings (NOT Cobras!) pass the test (I know since I checked them) while straight pipes will not.   This spec was recently passed by the New Hampshire House of representatives after a proposed ordinance like California's Ahnold law was shot down.

I'm for nice sounding aftermarket mufflers but not straight pipes.  From people that i talked to at the AMA conference on motorcycle loud pies, I'm thinking in the majority.

As an aside, I need to buy stock in hearing aid companies, there's a big market out there and getting bigger.

I lasted about 47 seconds into his rant.

In answer to the question, if it is I really don't care.

What a piece of work!

my feelings exactly.

i live about 1/2 mile from I-70 30 years ago(when we didn't have central air) trying to sleep at night with the straight pipe trucks running down the highway was tough. at least their quieted down. now still can hear the bikers, even with central air.
i will have to add the crotch rocketer that lives up the street is just as annoying when he comes by at 10-12 k rpm's day and night.

Adam Carolla is a douchebag. He has a problem with motorcycle riders and "hopes some of us get taken out by a semi." For those of you folks that don't ride, please understand that in the motorcycling community from the hardcore 1% bikers all the way down to the college kid on a scooter, the one thing that you DO NOT do is wish someone killed on their bike. It's just not done, not to your worst enemy, not to anyone EVER. Enough of us die trying to get from point A to point B without some quasi-celebrity assbag publicly calling for our execution. For those that ride, ride safe. For those that don't ride, look out for motorcycles. We have family and friends too.

Dont take this the wrong way, esp since I like ya!  Grin I'm not arguing but rather trying to understand. If you are sayin they are infringing your right to peace and quiet, then why would you infringe on someone else right to add/customize their own property? I'm sure your cherry bombs were mellow to you but what about another person? You rolling down US 30 at 60 mph could have been very well loud to others. I have heard nice loud pipes and heard sucky loud ones. It dont bother me. 1st time I took kit to Sturgis, 2007, she could not sleep the 1st night, at all. Bikes ran 24/7. A few nights later, she slept like a baby. Getting home we could not sleep cause it was to quiet! We since went to a tame campground off in the Hills. We are 3/4 mile off the interstate. Hearing them pipes roar thru the Hills is just plain awesome! I could set and listen/watch all day.

Well I don't think he'd complain about the cobras on my Rat Rod or the Dragon Packs on my SuperValk.

But there are people running "stupid loud" exhausts that annoy even me. I guess we all need to listen to our own exhausts and determine if they are too loud.

We will effectively "cut our own throats" when the new DOT sound pressure levels go into effect if we don't try to put ourselves in the shoes of the non-motorcycling public.

I'm ok with that, Brian.  I don't care what people do that affects only themselves. Customise, wear black, don't wear a helmet, you have that right.

However, straight pipes are not part of those rights!.  Federal and state laws specifically mention a means to quiet the internal combustion engine. Most are not enforced because they are hard to do so.

I'll be always against STRAIGHT PIPES. Some years ago, right before my wife died, she had trouble sleeping. About the time that she would start to fall asleep from exhaustion, an arsehole around the curve from us would ride past just revving the living crap out of his pipes on his Harley!  He was hard to catch but I never forgot that!  Would you?

One other instance. A few years back, I rode the Valk over to Meijers and parked away from the idiots that park by ear.  When i came up to the entrance, there was a Harley parked up against the building (parking prohibited), didn't mean crap to him.

When i came back out the Harley was gone.  I walked back to the Valk and noticed that a nice grandmother and her 7 or 8 year old grandson were admiring the Valk (so what else is new?).

I asked the grandma if I could sit her grandson on the bike.  no problem.  I was getting ready to start the six and the boy put his hands over his ears!  She told me that when they came out of Meijers, there was this LOUD bike and the owner was really revving it up.

I'm a Charter Life member of the AMA and their money goes to fight laws that BAN ALL motorcycles from communities.  We know why these stupid laws pass.  That's the easiest way to solve the problem.

Yes, you're right, back when I had cherry Bombs on my '49 Olds 88, i thought that they were quiet  They were in Ft. Wayne but not in Norris Dam where i got pulled over but no ticket.

Going back to pre geezerhood (long time ago) i started with a Whizzer motorbike.  I soon tired of the noise from that megaphone straight pipe that i put on to pull every last 2.5 horses out of the Whizzer.  It was too loud for me.

There is not a person on this board, no one, that will persuade me that STRAIGHT pipes help give us riders a good image.  That's how I really feel cooldude

i agree with Solo1, loud pipes are very obnoxious.  People with loud pipes are just looking for attention.  I do not appreciate it when some dumbass comes up from behind me with ear breaking pipes.  Sometimes it startles the crap out of me.  I agree, do what you want as long as it does not affect others.  Loud pipes may save the odd life but it annoys the crap out of the rest of us.

Not a big fan of adam corolla.  I think he thinks his _hit don't stink and can get away with saying crap about anyone to make a buck is all he is doing.  He makes somewhat of a point but takes it way too far.  I'm not a fan of loud pipes but as long as the idiot on the loud bike is not revving the heck out of it and doing what my neighbor does I'm o.k. with the noise.  Now, my HD neighbor is a true A-hole to the 10th degree.  He lets his HD fuel injected ultra classic with loud pipes idle at 2 a.m. when we are all asleep in the summer with our windows open about 25 feet from his garage.  If he would take off within 1 minute I wouldn't mind, but he lets it idle put, put, puttting away for like 15-20 minutes just to be an a-hole.  Then, when he finally gets done with taking a crap or whatever the heck he is doing in the house with his bike running outside unattended for like 10-20 minutes at that late at night to go to work, he finally hops on and revs the piss out of that P.O.S. HD and then goes like a bat out of hell thru the block you can hear him from like 2 miles into the country.  His pipes are so loud it rattles the pictures on our walls from 25 feet away seriously!  His other HD softail classic he gave to his kid was twice as loud.  He's the one who accused us of cutting his string down to mark the lot line to build his garage outback and left a threatening answering machine voice mail accusing us of cutting the string infringing on his right to build his garage when in fact our entire family was gone on vacation all week long.  He's darn lucky when we got back I did not listen to the voice mail right away and had to go to work that night and my mellow wife marched on over there and told his _SS off.  He even told me he was going to build a fence on the lot line to piss me off.  I told him go right ahead so I wouldn't have to look at his sorry _ss ever again.  GOTTA LOVE THY NEIGHBORS - NOT!  What a _ick!

Whenever the F15's went screaming over the field at 400 knots or they did Viking takeoffs, afterburners pointing towards the earth, you's swear the world was splitting in two. The neighbors (all of whom knew the base was there when they bought their homes) used to bitch all the time. snuggle em, I couldn't get enough of it. To me that's the sound of 5lbs each of freedom and awesome (for 10lbs total) stuffed into a 5lb bag and gettin' busy making babies. I'd adopt one if I could.

Straight pipes on the other hand sound like my ear-balls are being raped by the ghost of flatulence yet to come.

But Corolla is still a hypocrite.

Straight pipes are what they are, the owners choice to use them. Most people are idiots because they feel they have to throttle the crap out of them. My fat tire bike has cutoff baffle less  4inch headers. It is loud. Stupid loud. But, it is what I wanted since the rest of the bike is stupid also. Yes, it's loud. No, I don't abuse it but, that's me.....and my choice. As far as Adam ass, it is what he is.

Wow, what a load of gratuitous foul language for the sake of gratuitous foul lnguage. But he's right about  the jerks with straight pipes. I have my wife, daughter and grand daughter convinced that:

Loud Pipes Equals Very Small Penis

I consider it my civic duty as I have a very low toloerance for some jerk that thinks he has a "right" to invade the air space of anyone and everyone within an earshot of them. These jerks DO NOT have the right to risk my rights as a motorcyclist. Throaty and loud/straight pipes are NOT the same. Most of the straight pipe crowd must have a severe case of 'notice me'. Sad really.

YMMV,

Judd,  good idea on the chainsaw.  I think I will go out and buy one just for that purpose - ha ha.
I really do wish seriously he would build that fence since then he couldn't be more of a dick since he also takes his 500 dollar snowblower for his tiny 16x30' driveway with no sidewalks and 1/2 of that driveway is used up by parking his truck on it in the winter and he uses that snowblower to snowblow the grass 10'x100' between our houses into my yard. No joke!  The gravel he has alongside his back shed and the snow chunks literally hit our siding and basement window while he snowblows the grass between our houses.  In the spring, I pick up all the gravel rocks (quart bucket full) and toss them back into his property along with flinging his dog crap in my yard with a shovel and hitting his vinyl siding of his storage shed outback.   I wonder if he realizes dogs can poop 6' upward and stick to vinyl siding?   tickedoff   Grin
If he wants to be a dick, I can be right back also.  I could very easily borrow my mother in laws huge snowblower and snowblow my driveway tossing the snow easily 40' back into his driveway with the NW wind blowing or take my ATV with snowplow and push all that snow back into his own yard but the wife won't let me darn it.  After telling him off once, I'm glad he walked away since his 5' 150lb. frame being 15 years older than me wouldn't be much left of him after my 275lb. frame squashed him.
