I've seen some stupid people before. Who hasn't? But I almost killed one on a Harley today! I was driving merrily along on a 2 lane road and approaching a curve to my left. Here comes a bike around the curve (A right hand sweeper to him) with the rider bent way down looking around on the left (high) side of his bike with his left hand messing around down around the engine. I mean bent way down as if he was trying to see something on the engine. He wasn't leaning far enough into the curve and was already on my side of the center line and headed right at me! Scared the living hell out of me! I had a split second to react and swerve to my right and I really didn't expect him to miss me. In that split second he looked up, so he had time to see death coming at him. I think if I had been an inch closer to my left he wouldn't have made it, but he went right by my driver's side and kept going. I saw him in my mirror as he got straightened up and pulled back into his lane. I was pretty well stunned and a bit shaken. I can't imagine what he was doing or what he was thinking. The fool knew he was in a curve! How could he possibly have been stupid enough to be messing around with whatever he was doing at that moment when his concentration should have been on negotiating the curve? But, I'm glad it worked out the way it did. He lived and I'll get over it. Both of us were lucky!

Just because he's on 2 wheels doens't mean his brain is connected to the rest of his body.

No Harley bashing here... But he should buy a Honda and wouldn't have to be messing with anything down there while riding... Grin  Oh no... Did I say that out loud. Cheesy

In all seriosness... I'm glad you saw it coming and adjusted in the knick of time... Could have been real bad for both of you.  We all know who wins in Car -vs- Bike.  No one... uglystupid2

Really glad you were paying close attention to your surroundings AT ALL TIMES.  2 week ago I was a witness to one of the worst accidents I will hopefully never see again in my life.  I was cleaning my lawnmower deck and changing oil in my backyard and heard a huge BOMB LIKE CRASH on the hwy. 150 yards behind my house.  Looked up to see a F150 roll over a few times and land on its side and a Ford Fusion come to a stop.  It was a near head on collision around 62 mph and the lady in the Fusion died instantly and medflight helicopter landed to take the guy in the pickup in critical condition to hospital.  Nothing left of either front end of either vehicle, pretty scary stuff.

Point being, since that huge crash,  I have been looking over my surroundings whether on cycle or car more so than ever before.  The f150 driver crossed the centerline and the ford fusion lady guessing must have never reacted in time to go way over on the shoulder of the road not expecting a vehicle to cross the centerline that much.
