What does the data say?

Corinth, Texas

« on: April 15, 2012, 09:39:52 AM »

The "which day?" poll was underwhelmingly for Sunday, so we're going with Saturday, April 21.

Originally the location was going to be at my place, but
  • There weren't a lot who spoke up with heavy projects to be done
  • JC (YodaMaster) is in the process of reassembling a Valk from the frame up and could use some help.
so we've decided to move the location to JC's.

This doesn't mean we don't plan to work on your stuff.  Bring it on!  Walt, we're expecting to look at your rear drive leak, and Dan, we'll take care of your headlight relay. We will probably conduct a search & destroy mission for Disco's coolant leak, too.

We'll start about 9:00 am.  Lunch will be provided.

Use this thread to post if you'll be there and what you want to work on (if anything.)

PM or email YodaMaster for his address.  It will not be posted in public.

Would like to take care of installing my back off brake light module as well as my headlight relay.

I think we can easily accomodate an oil change, but I think you should be prepared to haul away the old oil.  I don't think it's fair to expect JC to dispose of it.  cooldude

Jim, no offense meant.  I used your post as a general reminder, not to imply you'd do such a thing.  Most of us wouldn't think of doing that, if we were to think of it.

Yup! OK! I'm here.

PM for the 10-20 ... aw what the heck! here 'tis. I'll just post a sign out front that tells the bad guys that my neighbor doesn't believe in owning a gun ... break into his place instead. I'm heavily armed!

2633 Camille Drive, Lewisville 75056. Except that I ain't in Lewisville. Carrollton actually, or surrounded by it. In Castle Hills. 3 miles south of the Sam Rayburn/121, south on Josey. 2nd light. Turn right on King Arthur.  if you Google just street address and ZIP, it'll get you here. PM if you need more confusing directions.

I'd like to start with brake and clutch fluid drain, replace, and bleed.

Next up will be check/adjust the SWR on the newly installed GL1800 CB antenna.

Re my coolant leak, to get where we think we need to will require removal of the tank and air box.  Tank is no big deal.  Air box can expand your vocabulary if you haven't done it before.

Wally World will accept up to 5 gallons of used oil per person per day.

Not sure how much you have done for your leak, but when we were in SD, we found a bit of coolant on the left side of the engine block about halfway toward the middle.  We cranked on the hoses, one of them was a bit difficult to get to.  Didnt have any more problems.

I'm happy to give all the hose clamps another squeeze and see if there is any more clamping left.  It's possible, but I've already done that once.  I suspect (an)other source(s).

Thanks VP that sounds great, even though it stopped leaking.  And yes it still have fluid in there.  I want to help with anything anyone needs help with.  I have been talking with a member out of OKC named Woodwizard.  He would like to come down to meet everyone.  I told him to come on down. I gave him directions there and told him to go on our board to make sure he gets there.  I also have some I/S trunk side rails I need help with attaching on the trunk.   I was never any good at getting those things straight.   Looking forward to seeing everyone.  JC, I can help with disposal of bodies who are stupid enough to "visit unannounced" Grin Roll Eyes

Thanks for the thought VP....I have ordered a power outlet for my phone and a FEW LED accent lights, but they are (of course) all on back order.   Sad  Nothing I can't live without, but I was hoping that if I pull the tank, I could get all that done at once.  .....So next time   cooldude   I'll still enjoy distracting everyone ....and hiding a few tools   2funny

OK, so the prime suspects are

WDAN: Headlight relay and Back-Off module installed (1 to 1.5 hours)

DISCO: Brake and clutch fluid change (0.5 hours)  SWR optimization of CB & antenna combo (0.5 hours unless tank has to be pulled, then 1 to 1.5 hours)

RAINMAKER: Change brake lines (2 to 3 hours)

STORMRIDER: Confirm no rear-drive leak and check for in-fact presence of drive fluid inside the drive.  Install trunk rails (unknown effort and duration)

THAGANDY: Minor electrical things.  Head nurse. (He looks GREAT in starched white.)

WOODWIZARD: Available hands

LUCKY-1-CHRIS: Available hands

BIG ED: Available hands

TIMBO: Available hands unless his farkles arrive, then some minor install work. In charge of hiding tools.

VALKPILOT: Brake and clutch fluid change (0.5 hours)

YODA MASTER: He's got a rolling chassis with an engine in it. Some assembly required.  All available hands, all the time.

Regarding JC's bike, is it just wheels, frame and engine right now? I missed (or forgot) a post about a crash...

Wiring harness gone? Rear brake pedal, MC, and line gone? Clutch line? Is the belly tank still installed? I remember there being quite a bit of aftermarket wiring on that bike, will it need to be re-done from scratch?  This might take a minute or two... Smiley  How early do y'all wanna get started on it?

Not to worry, Chris, there was no crash and you didn't forget anything.  JC's primary bike is fine and fully intact.  Some months ago he quietly joined the >1 Valkyrie club and has been working on a frame-up cosmetic restoration.
