I'm looking for options on mounting and iPod Touch 3rd Gen to my bike, and don't like the way the Ram Mounts look (waaaay too clunky).
If you've got pics or websites, I would greatly appreciate it.

I keep mine in the trunk, ran a wire to the outlet under the right side cover. Today I added a power cable so I never run low on the batteries. I like the random shuffle just fine.

.jpg) The little pocket to the right of the tach holds my i-pod when I'm not using the mp3 on the Garmin. might be tacky but it gets the job done.

I have been using RAM mounts for IPhone and IPod touch for years. Don't find them "clunky" at all. I think they are minimal and they really hold the I-whatever really secure, never a problem in tens of thousands of miles. http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-apple-ipod-touch-g2-cradle-ram-hol-ap7u.htmlI have a RAM ball on each side of the handlebar clamp and use the 1.75" arm to attach the RAM mount to the RAM ball. IPod for music, IPhone to see when I get calls (I am on call for work 24/7, so I need to know when the phone rings). Here is the best photo I have of my "dash" setup: As far as power, have cigar lighter plug under the fairing and just use power plug that plugs in the cigar lighter with a USB port. Just run the USB power to the Ipod and also plug in to the AUX on the I/S.

Thanks for the photos / links everyone. I picked up an Alpine head unit to iPod cable today at best buy on clearance and have identified which wires need to be connected to what to power and pull audio from the iPod. When I shut off the bike, it will pause the music, but when I start it again, the music doesn't start playing again so a hidden mount won't really work, which I would love to do to keep it protected from errant rainstorms. What I don't like about the ram system is the u-bolt that clamps to the handlebar, the "uprights" with the huge thumbscrew and that it's too modular - I'm looking for something simple, like I am. Dice electronics has a nice looking cradle but there's nothing to retain my iPod. I've seen some on fleabay but am hesitant because they look chincy. :-/

What I don't like about the ram system is the u-bolt that clamps to the handlebar, the "uprights" with the huge thumbscrew and that it's too modular - I'm looking for something simple, like I am. I am as well pretty hung up on the looks of stuff mounted on my Valk. In my setup the RAM ball(s) are both right next to the handlebar clamp so the u-bolts are not seen. With the GPS mounted it covers both of the huge thumbscrews so it is a pretty clean setup, if I do say so myself. I don't think you will find a more secure setup them the RAM holder I linked above. When I first got it, I put the IPod in it and swung it very violently above the couch... held it tightly. I do have issues if it rains, gotta get them off the bike and put them away... I did ruin one IPod when I hit a MONSOON coming back from the HSN Candian Rally last August... it was bad. JoAnn gave me her IPod

I saw the setup at the HSN rally, and would love to be able to do something like that, but can't get past the ram mount setup. I'm glad I headed back a day earlier and missed the monsoon too. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this: with the hopes that the part that mounts on the ball: will fit a garmin-sized ball, as I already have this on the bike: held onto the handlebars up by the brake MC with one of these: and if it fits, that's what I'm looking for - it's clean, when it's not there, the milled aluminum ball is pretty unobtrusive and the chrome mount looks nice, even when it's completely visible. If it all fits, I'll be going with another chrome mount and ball mounted down by the handlebar clamp so that I can use both the garmin and ipod at the same time.

This is how I mount my mp3 player.......
It's a Sony. DXS-S100. I control it with the remote control that came it came with velcro'ed to a Ram mount mounted on the mirror stem.

I've hand made all my mounts. Left & Right reservoir clamps can be handy. My material of choice = Ace hardware. 1.5"x.125" flat bar aluminum. Configure, cut, drill, form, sand & polish. Left-side for headset coupler holder. Right-side for Garmin & it's XM antennae puck. Rigid as heck. The Garmin doesn't move a bit or vibrate at all. Even on an HD it wouldn't vibrate any more than the bars would.

They also offer the DXS-S200 and the DXS-S300. Those have blue-tooth.

But I put it on a big playlist and let it shuffle. I don't think I could make changes safely while I'm in motion. Not that others couldn't.

The eBay purchase arrived yesterday, and it fits perfectly on the Garmin mount. The iPod didn't fit perfectly in the mount but about 5 minutes with the heat gun fixed that and for a fraction of the cost of a ram mount.
