My daughter-in-law Autumn is looking for a good way to conceal carry her Walther 22. She's thinking of a shoulder holster but didn't care much for my Bianchi. She hopes to find a rig which will be good while riding or walking. I told her I'd post here and ask for advice.

TIA

Honestly she needs a bigger gun. A 22 is a good cheep gun for target practice, but I wouldn't use anything less than a 38 for self defense.

Shoot some of the guys I know with a 22 and you'll just pi$$ them off.  Grin

I 4warded this to X.. for a females response... but until then check out remora concealed holsters.. I have one and it works extremely well.. comfortable as hech and inexpensive.. if she wants to use a 22 for self defense she better be damn good at head shots under pressure.. and MOST folks arent

Mike,

Have her read this - a site well-written by a female firearms instructor, for women.  Lots of great info here particularly for the special problems women have when carrying, esp. concealed:  http://www.corneredcat.com/

Man or woman, what concealed pistol holster to use depends greatly on size and shape.  Both genders have difficulty with traditional strong-side high-rise holsters (in or outside the waistband) when they are shaped like (or similar to) bowling balls.  Also many women need spacers to hold the holster top off the waist because their hourglass shape makes many regular holsters cause the pistol butt to dig up under the ribcage (my 115lb wife could not wear any traditional holster....Safariland had holsters and spacer kits just for women).

Women love purses (almost as much as shoes), and they make some dandy holster purses with very quick access.

She would be well served to go to a couple gun shops and ask for help and to try some stuff out.

A .22 may not be a great manstopper but it beats the hell out of a thrown rock or a whistle or pepper spray.  Triple tap someone at arms length and they will probably stop doing the annoying behavior that got them shot.

She has several handguns at her disposal, this is the one she shoots almost daily and likes the best. I know it's a poodle shooter but eight shots in the head, chest and neck with it would still leave 2 in reserve. It might be an inhumane caliber, but, we're talking criminals, not deer so I don't think it matters much.  Her husband can empty this gun into a moving steel plate in 3 or 4 seconds. She's not that good with it but I still wouldn't want her shooting at me with it.  Wink

But, as I said, the question is one of comfortable ways for a female to conceal carry.

Again, thanks in advance.

OK, Here's the page from the link above that most specifically talks about your concerns: http://www.corneredcat.com/Straight_Talk_About_Curves/

The hollow point .22 is an underrated round more than capable of killing the s**t out of someone. Is it my first choice? No, but I'm not a woman with small hands.

I've been pepper sprayed (more than once as part of training) and while it sucks bawls you can still fight through it. I'll take being pepper sprayed over being shot with ANYTHING more lethal than a Taser.

Some very cool info, thanks guys. I'll be spending some time on the Cornercat site for sure. I'm still looking through the "Remora" site also. We've got a friend who owns an outdoor range and teaches firearms classes so Autumn will be talking to him about carry methods too.

Autumn, young Ryder and my wife Melody are on their way to New Orleans now to introduce the new baby "Ryder" to Autumn's family. Thanks to you guys I'll have some good info for her when she gets home.

Really appreciate it.

one well placed 22 is better than 12 rounds of a 45 that misses. or 9mm or 38 or, well you get it.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Kit uses a fobus and she finds it comfortable. I would never let her carry in a purse.

I saw some youtube videos of this chic trying different holsters I found on my OC site. Really informative.

You never know what they have hiding in there.
That SW 22 8 shot is really a sweet little gun. Not sure how tough a crowd you folks hang with but you most likely only need to show me the gun and my behavior would get better.

Newbie here, but with a chance to weigh in on one of my favorite topics...ok, besides bikes...firearms! Woohoo!

One of our fellow members posted the info/links to the FlashBang. This is what my wife uses for her Springfield XDM. She loves it! It's a little odd when we're practicing at the range, as you might imagine, but that's one additional thing I would recommend - practice.

Even with my Blackhawk Serpa, I practice from draw to acquire target to fire as, sadly, that's what would happen in real life.

But, put my wife down as a ringing endorsement for the FlashBang.

Very cool. The one thing I was wondering about the flashbang is if it's a secure holster? I wondered because the bottom of it looks to be open. I've never had one of the newer holsters which just clamps down on the gun so I'm a little leery of recommending them.
