Pictures aren't there - just the red box.  However, I did see the pictures and videos elsewhere and it really brings a tear to the eye.  Fantastic ship and incredible how at 36 years old these are still the most advanced space vehicle designs around.

Friend of mine asked when I plan to go back to the Smithsonian and see it...

...I won't be emotionally ready to see that bird in a museum until we have a manned space program again to replace it.

*Sigh*

Why should Texas have one of the shuttles?  After all, it is just Mission Control that is located here!!  Nothing important to the space program since the early 60s. Oh yes, forgot, probably because of how the state votes!!  Nah, surely not!  Wish I had a sarcasm font on my computer.

My dad and I took a trip up to see the new Smithsonian air museum near Dulles Airport last year. He is an aeronautical engineer and ran the test lab at LTV for forty years. His name is on one of the panels located in front of the museum. He was disappointed that they did not have an actual shuttle there yet. His test lab did the testing on the nose cone for the shuttles, and he wanted to see what one looked like after many hours of flight. I guess we will have to go back when they get Discovery settled in.

They didn't have one, because we weren't finished with them yet!  I don't know how long they're projecting till the display is ready, though.
