"Star Walk" is a great app for iphones.  I have been using it for more than a year and can identify any celestial object in the sky with it.

It's an app for smartphones. You hold the phone up to the sky and it shows you a layout of what you're looking at so you can easily identify celestial bodies. I's amazingly accurate. I could lay it over Orion, turn in several circles quickly, move it to the NP and SP and lay it right over Orion again. No loss of orientation.
