Let me start by saying my 99 Tourer has been the best bike I've owned, that even includes a 03 Goldwing I had. But eventually, all good things must come to an end. For the past year I've been      looking for a bike to replace my 99 but I have not been able to decide what to get. Considering everything about the Valkyrie, if you had to get another bike, what would it be? Maybe some of you  have gone through the same thing I'm going through now. Any and all opinions will be appreciated. Thanks

If I were replace my 99 Interstate today, I'd get the new Victory Cross ountry Tour. This time next year, I may go for the upcoming Moto Guzzi California 1400 with bags and a shield.

All the best,

Haven't found one that has the total package to beat the Valkyrie. So I went out and bought a 650 V Strom to keep my Valkyrie company.

Harley road glide with the 108.  Not a v-twin fan, but it is a pretty bike.  Why are you getting rid of the valk?  I'm sure it's paid for, and that is the BEST type of bike to have.

Is another Valkyrie not an option?   I've got only one, unlike some here that have many, and I would still like to have another one.

Opinions are like A$$holes, we all have one.   Embarrassed However, the common thought on this board is that is not much that tops a Valkyrie. There a lots of them out there to be bought, and a at this stage, I'd look for another one!

I know, no help, but that how these threads always end. Like I said, "Opinions are ..."

I'm also wondering the same thing.  I have owned two Valk's. But wonder if there is anything that is as smooth and powerful out there?
Last  year I rode a Triumph Rocket 3 thinking it would have the POWER, But I was dissapointed, I rode the Rocket 3 tourer at a dealership in Knoxville. Maybe the Roadster is what i should have rode?????
If only they still made the Valkyrie, I would buy a brand new tourer.

I've said for years that if I had to replace my Valk that it would be with a Yamaha Royalstar Venture

http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelhome/586/0/home.aspx

It would still be on the list but the Victory Cross Country Tour would also be in the running

http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/victory-motorcycles/touring/cross-country-tour/pages/overview.aspx?WT.si_n=VIC-choose_bike_2012_cross_c_t&WT.si_x=1

Now if I was looking for a "Kick Around" bike the Victory Hammer would be on my short list.

well if someone was gonna buy me one maybe the 1600 bmw

It was sure a lot of fun to ride power 6 speeds abs all the doodads you could ask for and its a 6 cylinder

Once you have had 6 its tough riding less

My commuter bike is the 1150rtp, but its not a bike for long trips

I currently own a '98 Tourer and an '05 Wing. Replacing isn't an option, but I wish I could afford an ST1300 or a Kawi Concours. Then get a dual purpose; KLR 650 or a DL650. Sell the Valk?? Bite your tongue!!

since i detest the sound of v-twinkies, i'd get a Beamer.  before the Valk i had been looking at the K1200LT, but now they've come out with the 1600, haven't riden one of those yet, but it sounds pretty nice.

or, i'd buy a GW and stripp it down, rearrange things, make it look like a Valk!!

going to test ride a Victory this coming weekend, i had riden one before, wasn't too impressed with the power, who knows, maybe a second or third try is better?  i do like the stereo on the Victory Vision, the cruise control works very well, the bike its self is comfortable, just don't like all that vibration from a v-twin.....

As far as I can see there is no Valk replacement out there. The Roadster would be a cool bike if you could tour on it and if it wouldn't break.

The 6 cylinder beemer does indeed look like a good bike and they have a good reputation for lasting but it's not a valk.

The Ducati Mulitistrada sounds like an awesome bike but it can't have the comfort of a valk. The Concours or the ST would probably be my choice since they're more affordable than the beemer but I don't think either one could replace my valk.

Someone needs to build a big, naked touring/sport bike with loads of power and comfort which will last for 400,000 miles like our valks probably will. And, it needs to sell for $18,000 or under.

I have ridden a lot of bikes...

There is not one out there right now I would trade for.  I have not ridden the 1600 BMW yet.

I liked the power of the Rocket, and the brakes were good too, but it had an annoying BUZZ that drove me NUTS.

I'd consider an 1800 wing, but I would have to strip some stuff off it.  The wings feel small to me.  I don't like how they sit.  They don't seem built for me.  I rode my 1st Valk (2002 Standard) about 50 miles before I felt like I had been riding it all my life.  That was 9 years ago... she's still my favorite, and in my garage right now deferring to my 99 IS while waiting for a little warmer weather.

If you can buy ANOTHER bike... buy one.  Have fun.  But most guys regret selling their Valks and end up coming back...

The Valk became too heavy for me to push around so I sold it. I've had a Magna, A 750 Nighthawk, and now a 1000 Suzuki Vstrom, and none of them can do what the Valk does. Of course, all of them are lighter which was my forced goal.

You'll probably be sorry if you sell the Valk. There is nothing out there, used or new, that is like the Valk.
Sit back and rethink what you want the bike to do. Maybe keep the Valk and buy another bike.

WOW, what a response! It looks like everybody agrees that there is nothing out there right now that can beat a Valkyrie. I agree!!  I tested a Harley Ultra Classic- way too much vibration and not as powerful as my 99 Tourer. I tested a Kawasaki Vaquero- no power and way hotter that my 99. I tested a Victory Cross Country- best ride of the V twins but not as smooth or as powerful as my 99. The bike that I feel gave my 99 some competition was the Triumph Rocket III Touring.  It is pretty smooth, lots of power and handles well for a big bike. I really appreciate all your opinions. It looks like I will be hanging on to my 99 a while longer. Thanks again.

For me the only way to move up from the Valkyrie was to go Boss Hoss.  However, that's in addition to my '98 Valk Tourer that I don't plan to get rid of.  I've had it since it was new, it's still gorgeous, and I still love it.  If anything were to ever happen to it, I'd buy another one.  There are MANY Boss Hoss owners that are former... or current... Valkyrie owners.  However, I now (affectionately) refer to my Valk as the moped!

That is a question I had asked myself once or twice, if my Valk was no longer, what bike would I relpace it with and the only answer I can come up with is another Valk. I have ridden many a bike over the years and test rode quite a few, but I keep comming back to the Valk, it just fits me and I love the look and feel of the machine, to me nothing compares to it.

Well a fewyears ago I owned 4 Valks, and got to thinking that was too much of a good thing, and started thinking sport tour.  I found a cherry very low mile ZZR1200, sold 2 of the Valks and bought it, great fun bike, but  my riding Bud had a Busa and was kicking my butt, then the Zx14 hit the market.  Got a killer deal trading the ZZR, and  that was the end of the butt kicks.  Started the process of making it into a sport tour when the Concours 1400 came out.  Now I am back to 4 bikes, and like Wayne the Valks are getting a little heavy, so the two Kaws get most of my attention.   They are a blast, very powerful, super fast and handle great.  Have been thinking of selling the ZX14, at 73 am getting too old for the houligan kid stuff it entices you to do.  If I do get rid of it, I may look at a Can-Am.

If another Valk is out of the question, the two on my short list to consider would be the BMW 1600 and the Triumph Rocket III. Although, I've never ridden either, so they would only be a starting point. I suppose a last resort would be a Wing.

Two thumbs up for the BMW 1600.  It is the most capable, all around good bike I've ever ridden.  That said, it still lacks the charm of my Valkyrie.

Money not being a problem, I would get as most say a BMW1600 or 1832 goldwing or victory cross country tourer or yamaha venture royal touring bike all used of course even if money was no object.  I really cannot see spending over 12 grand on any cycle out there not worth it to me.  So, besides a used yamaha venture royal right now, the other 3 used will have to wait until get down below 12 grand in a few years.  Those 4 would be on my short list although I would also test drive a rocket III tourer.  Seems like those 5 bikes are the most popular here as they should be RIGHT BEHIND THE VALKRYIE of course.   cooldude

Suzuki Bourgman (sp) 650.

Buddy of mine has one and after the 1st test ride he let me have, I've ridden it several times.

It is lighter in weight than MGM, who by the way is getting too heavy for me.   No way I can sell it, my daughter and my son each want it.   Who ever no gets MGM, gets the Chevy Trike.    So I guess both of them will be in my garage for a few more years, well at least 2.

What is good/bad about an 1800 or 1300 VTX? Sound is not so great compared to a Valk. Since the 1300 is lighter than the 1800 does it have nearly the same power or not? Overheard a Honda sales guy tell someone that the 1800 VTX ruined the sales of the Valk and the 1300 VTX ruined the sales of the 1800 VTX.

The ergonomics on the VTX's are not as good (for ME) and I simply don't like the vibes.  I test rode an 1800 VTX for about 60 miles 9 years ago.  Had the SO on board... when we pulled into the Honda dealership, he had a Valk prepped for me, knowing that what I really wanted was a Valk.  The Valk was not a demo bike though...  I didn't make it out of the parking lot before I KNEW beyond a doubt that the Valk was my destiny.

I was doing the paperwork to buy a new 2003 boring black one for $12,500 when I ran across my 2002 standard Blue-Pearl on E-Bay.  2765 miles and $9200 "Buy it now.  Duh!  That E-Bay add was posted for 11 minutes... cooldude

Drove up to Green Bay the next night to get her.
