After our 8 day tour of Galveston and Houston, returned to the house around 11pm Friday nite.

Saw a disturbing sight in Reagan, TX. Saw a Harley rider pushing his bike on the opposite side of the road.  Saw 2 other Harleys coming and watched them pass right on by, not even slowing down. So we swung the great white whale (minivan) around at the next crosswalk and stopped behind the rider, who was from Oklahoma. He was out of gas and 8 miles away from the nearest station. He was heading to his son's wedding on Saturday and said he just forgot he was already on reserve. He thanked me for stopping and gave me $20 for gas.  We went to Marlin and bought a 99 cent gallon of water, dumped it and bought a gallon of gas to put in the now empty plastic jug. Then we went back, got the HD started and led him back to the gas station. Gave him his $16 change back and wished him well.  Steams me that no motorcycle riders stopped to ask if they could help.

We ran out of gas once on a well traveled back road. It was my fault as I forgot to switch back from res after filling up. Several bikers passed us by before a nice young guy in a pick up truck made a u-turn to help us. Gave him a 20 to buy a 2 gallon can and gas. He would not take a dime for his trouble so I gave him the gas as payment.

Not many like you around, in cars or on bikes. Thanks for what you did.

When I broke down outside of Decatur a Valkyrie rider blew past me, but at least I got a wave.  Two foreigners on VTX 1800's stopped and waited with me until a truck arrived to tow me away.

One afternoon Wizard and I came across a guy with a BMW on the shoulder.  He was out of gas.  Wizard's bike was set up solo, mine wasn't, so I gave the rider a ride to the gas station 3 miles up the road, and he was surprised we waited for him to get his gas can and gas, then took him back to his bike.  And then we waited to be sure he got it started and back on the road.

We've stopped for lots of HDs and other bikes.  Then again, it was a Victory dealer who stopped for me in Wisconsin when my alternator took a vacation last summer.  So i guess there are still a few who stop and help.

Don't know what it is about that stretch of Hwy 6 between Marlin and College Station that attracts empty tanks and broken bikes.  Was on the Valk going down for midnight yell one Friday night and saw a biker stopped between Hearne and Calvert.  So stopped and he was.... out of gas.  but he was also out of money.  So I put him on the Valk, we went back to Calvert, bought a gas can (before I figured out the plastic water bottle trick), 2 gal gas and headed back.  Gave him $20 and the gas can and sent him on his way.  Missed midnight yell but saw the game the next day so all was well.

Coming back Sunday, found one running 10mph on the shoulder outside of Hearne.  Stopped and he had no tools, so we tweeked his carb enough to get it up to 15mph.  The shoulder stopped so we went down the center of the highway with my 4 ways flashing until we got to Calvert, where he turned off and got to a friend's house without being killed.

Of the people I've stopped for over the years, the only ones who needed assistance were on Hwy 6.  Think it might be because that's the road to Aggieland? 2funny
